Zendaya is a highly skilled performer, with a lot to offer Hollywood. Her performance as Rue Bennett on HBO’s Euphoria surprised audiences as to how a former Disney Channel star could play a teenager struggling with addiction so compellingly.

I have no doubts she would make an excellent Cleopatra.

The only way a Cleopatra movie would work today is if you adapt Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra. Taking the biopic route will ensure the film becomes another battle in the culture war, whereas Shakespeare’s play could be made into a thoughtful allegory on colonialism, and the Shakespearean text removes the source material from strict historical accuracy, meaning that casting Cleopatra becomes a lot easier because it’s not intended to be a visual reflection of the real Cleopatra VII Philopator.
