In an article on cinemablend.com, they reported Warner Bros. has moved American Sniper to a Christmas date hoping to get some awards traction. We now have yet another contender at this years awards. Clint Eastwood wants another Oscar. Thoughts?August 13, 2014 at 5:39 pm #158109
I better start altering my Best Actor and Best Picture predictions now.August 13, 2014 at 5:41 pm #158110
Sienna Miller will probably get in here instead of Foxcatcher.August 13, 2014 at 6:13 pm #158111
You know, the way in which Chris Kyle met his “end” is so entirely apropos. He was such a braggart and so self congratulatory.
Still, in Eastwood’s hands, I expect that he (Clint) will mitigate this with his surprising sense of humanity.August 13, 2014 at 6:13 pm #158112
I think it all depends on how the film is received (duh), but Clint Eastwood’s Oscar stint as of late hasn’t been that great. Gran Tarino, Trouble with the Curve, J. Edgar, all resulted in 0 nods, so I wouldn’t bet on ‘American Sniper’ in best picture until we have some positive/strong indications.
Same goes for Bradley Cooper. He’s got a hit film out this year, he’s a previous consecutive nominee, it’s a one man show, playing a real person, from a very competent director. I personally don’t like him, but he’s got some good factors on his side. I still think he needs the reviews to keep him in the conversations, because he’s not an Oscar favorite and this year is $$TACKED.
Sienna Miller’s the same. She’ll coattail if the film is acclaimed, if not then not happening.August 13, 2014 at 6:15 pm #158113
Count me as skeptical until the film comes out. Invictus was the last time the Academy showed Clint must attention, and even that was a bit of a disappointment, given the pedigree.August 14, 2014 at 2:45 am #158114
i feel a 3 oscar nomination in a row for Bradley and i’ve never tricked himAugust 14, 2014 at 3:11 am #158115
Amazing.IMO Cooper could easily win a trophy & Eastwood recieve another nom .August 14, 2014 at 3:37 am #158116
Best Actor is beyond stacked this year… I’ve never seen this category that interesting in years! Clint Eastwood is a boring director to me. I loathe Million Dollar Baby and Invictus and I’ll never forgive him for “ruining” what could’ve been a great film: J.Edgar. I like Mystic River though.August 14, 2014 at 5:43 am #158117
Not only does it jump into the oscar conversation, but it joins what is already a very crowded christmas release date: Big Eyes, Unbroken, Into The Woods, Selma, The Interview, Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and Paddington. I think Into the Woods would do the best of this field, but it’s hard to know.

St. Clint rushing a film out in time for the Oscars? Shocking.August 14, 2014 at 11:10 am #158120
I don’t like the fact that Cinema Blend (and Deadline) says the film is being rushed – I think the experience is that Eastwood needs time to make his films.
Very optimistic that this one might be another hit. Loved Invictus!August 14, 2014 at 12:13 pm #158121
But Million Dollar Baby….
Also American Hustle was also “rushed” in time for awards season and I think it did pretty well for a silly film with nothing important to offer.August 14, 2014 at 1:11 pm #158122
Not being as familiar with Eastwood’s oeuvre as I should be, I just checked out the imdb. A couple of hits (Million Dollar Baby and The Unforgiven) and Jersey Boys, J. Edgar, Invictus, Hereafter, Gran Torino.
No, won’t be affecting my predictions.
