Same! I definitely was looking out for it since it was announced in 2019 but after that beautiful trailer. My hype has gone up to eleven. There is no way this misses out on a Best Original Screenplay nomination. And nothing would make me happier than for this to also get Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominations. But I think Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Actress nominations will be very tough for it to land.

C’mon C’mon is amazing. Mike Mills is a genius. It’s amazing how better he is than Noah Baumbach at making movies about human emotions. He’s one of the few filmmakers who actually have a constant subject matter in his films: Time. And his movies

Just like 20th Century Women, C’mon C’mon is about how the world changes throughout time and how different generations (let it be X, Y or Z) deal with these changes.

C’mon C’mon features the modern anxieties of the generation we live in. “What do you think the future is going to look like ?” is the question Johnny keeps asking in the movie, with all the current problems the world have.
Jesse is the personification of all those anxieties. He can’t stand changes, and his life is always changing fast from having his dad with him from having his dad away and sick, to staying with only his mom, then to staying with Johnny in LA, to going with Johnny to NY, to going with Johnny to New Orleans and whatever the place Johnny is going to work, then to having his dad back and having to leave Johnny to live with his mom again, and culminating in the brilliant scene in the woods (the trees looked like a painting, amazing Cinematography) where he just express his feelings, which is something that he isn’t able throughout the whole movie because he doesn’t know and never needed to.

Joaquin Phoenix is truly one of the GOATS. Gaby Hoffmann also did a great job.

Woody Norman is, without a doubt, the MVP of the movie. The level of acting from this kid was insane. It’s like a “Just be a kid” performance or “pretend to be a kid” performance. The dude was straight up acting and even doing an american accent with perfection (He’s British). I hope he gets a BAFTA nomination and I really think it’s very possible.

A masterpiece of a movie. I think a Screenplay nom at the Oscars is very much in the realm of possibility, since it’s a writers movie and 20th Century Women also got nominated by surprise although it had some acting noms at GG and CC.

One of the best films of last year. Hopefully, it gets an screenplay nom like 20th century women, although it deserves way more.

What’s so powerful about this film is that although it is told through Phoenix’s character’s perspective you can really see things from each of the character’s lens. From Jesse, from Gaby Hoffman’s character… perhaps I’m saying this only because of my own experiences having a sibling and having memories of being someone’s nephew but I really had a profound emotional experience watching this film. Hands down the best original screenplay of the year alongside The Worst Person in the World.

Joaquin Phoenix is so much better here than he was in Joker and I was really impressed with Gaby Hoffman here but Woody Norman is a star.

FYC: Better Call Saul and The Good Fight in all categories including Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I loved this movie. Phoenix has never been better, Woody Norman was great, Gaby Hoffman was wonderful, and the actor who played her bipolar husband – the kid’s father gave a fantastic performance with little or no dialogue.

The script is fantastic and it is extremely well directed.

But most of all: I loved the black & white camera work! The cityscapes of the various cities was phenomenal!

IDK why this film did so poorly with the critics, who insanely chose a few mediocre films and gave them all the awards this year.

C’mon C’mon is nominated for major Indie Spirit awards – Film, Director and Screenplay – but no acting nominations? Huh?

Yeah it’s bizarre. I can understand Phoenix getting snubbed if they didn’t want to sound like they were going for Oscar contenders but Norman and Hoffman made little sense.
