Quite surprised to hear that tbh. Almost everyone I know who saw the movie, really liked her performance. Well, I guess it’s going to be one of those cases where we’re going to have to agree to disagree. I loved Madsen as well, she’s my 2nd pick of the nominees. But glad we both agree that Blanchett shouldn’t have won. I love her but that performance aged like milk.

omg yes, Blanchett’s supporting win is one of my least favourite, which is funny since her lead win is one of my favourites.

Damn I never got around to watching BTR but now I kinda want to cuz of the dragging

The performances aren’t as bad as this thread is making it sound.

    They’re worse.

Darling, this movie is worse. It’s so boring. I’ve slept midway through this Sorkin’s overindulgent mess.

    FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once
    Tang Wei, Decision To Leave
    Rebecca Hall, Resurrection

James Hong & Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All At Once

Darling, while I really love Blanchett, Somehow I feel that her Katharine Hepburn falls down into pure imitation with little depth (she did the best she could do though, at some moments she really looks like Katharine). That scene in the golf field looks like an SNL skit. The accent, the mannerisms is so distracting, I can see Blanchett’s acting underneath it.

While I actually love her performance in the movie and think the Oscar was deserved, I wholeheartedly agree on the golfing scene. I kinda wanna ask Cate what the hell she was doing. She was so extra. As you said, it was like an imitation of Hepburn, a skit, rather than an inhabitation. (only in that scene though for me)

I actually watched the movie yesterday and:

Darling, this movie is worse. It’s so boring. I’ve slept midway through this Sorkin’s overindulgent mess.

However, I don’t actually think the performances are bad. Bardem and Kidman are actually very good (though by no means win-worthy). Simmons is just okay though; definitely did not deserve the nom. All of the old male actors that are sad about getting old must have nominated him…
