No, Marion Cotillard has won an Academy Award, and that pretty much ensured that the academy was going to at least watch her project. Charlotte Rampling has not been acknowledged by any of the major groups, so they are probably not even going to watch her project. In addition, she is not even a prior nominee.

Yeah, Charlotte Rampling isn’t an Oscar nominee but she’s something else that Marion Cotillard isn’t – a fucking LEGEND.

It depends on many different things – one of which is category fraud. If both Mara and Vikander are in the lead, than I suppose Rampling can bow down and we would have something like we got with the Globes. If not, if at least one or two places are open, then she has the chances. Now, if Dame Maggie decided to join the circus and be in LA for a certain amount of time, with Downton coming back, it would be interesting to see whether both legends can find their way in. Rampling would have much more difficult job if Smith wins the Globe, be at LA and one of Vikander/Mara duo is named Lead.

    Yes, she will.

I am certainly not taking her out of my predictions. Just like Cotillard and Laura Dern last year.

Oscar ballots are due today. So globes have no effect.

Yeah, correct… But Smith being nominated over Rampling at BAFTAs and Globes (not exactly over her but she got nom when Rampling failed) can indicate that we might see Smith over Rampling, or both of them named  that morning.

I think there is only one spot left in lead actress. Vikander will be moved up for The Danish Girl.

I predicted Cotillard last year, and I’m predicting Rampling this year. I agree what helped Cotillard was she was already an Oscar winner and overdue for a second nod after many performances of hers got close but no enchilada. Passion votes for Cotillard’s performance (which was amazing) helped her get that slot. And passion will help Rampling. Hers is the type of performance that WILL generate number 1 votes. She’s not a filler, not a 5th slotter. She’s a #1 pony. If she can get on enough ballots, she’s in.

After Mirren’s puzzling BAFTA snub for Woman in Gold, I am now predicting:

    1. Saoirse Ronan
    2. Brie Larson
    3. Cate Blanchett
    4. Alicia Vikander
    5. Charlotte Rampling

If Vikander goes supporting for Danish Girl, I think (sigh) we might have to deal with Jennifer Lawrence’s name being called. But it also opens the door for a fifth spot – and then Rampling truly should make it.

Maggie Smith is indeed a darkhorse lurking, but she seems to be peaking too late for me. I think she’s more beloved then Mirren in England, and she’s been working the circuit. I have her predicted to spoil at the Golden Globes Sunday, since I think Amy Schumer will split votes with Melissa McCarthy (even though those two give genuwine “comedic” performances).  But the Oscar shortlist for Best Actress is crowded. I’d be happy to see her place, but I think it’s Rampling and Vikander in the last two spots.

Also, Sarah Silverman apparently has been generating strong buzz for I Smile Back and SAG did remember her. According to most pundits, SAG is going to go 3/5 in Best Actress. Is this normal? I don’t have the memory bank for their history in this race. Are we underestimating Silverman or Mirren? 4/5 is always how they go usually, but 3/5? How often does this occur?

I haven’t left her off my predictions. BAFTA snub aside, I don’t see how anyone that watches that performance ignores it. Of course, it all depends on who has popped in their screeners. Maggie Smith may have gotten a Globe and BAFTA nomination, but it might be a case of “too little, too late.” I think Rampling gets in over her.

She is not young and hot and a previous Oscar winner, so no.

i think the wisest choice ever, for this year best actress would be :

    – Cate Blanchett CAROL
    – Brie Larson ROOM
    – Charlotte Rampling 45 YEARS
    – Saoirse Ronan BROOKLYN
    – Alicia Vikander THE DANISH GIRL

pray with me for that happens !…

I think those are the 5. It would be a perfect day if it was.

I am also inclined to believe the same. Unlike Mara, Vikander was moved to Best Actress race.
