Around this time last year, a ton of articles started popping up everywhere on the internet on why Glenn Close winning the BA Oscar would be bad for the Academy.

Nope. Dern’s movie is one of the strongest amongst those in her category, plus she’s already won the Globe and SAG. One of the big reason’s Close lost is because her movie was weak as hell while The Favourite was top 5. Not to mention, Colman won the Globe and BAFTA.

You read HE, so Glenn really has a shot right? Could she votesplit with Adams?

I feel like Adams ain’t getting in, or maybe they’ll push her in the leading category what do you say?

Yeah after thinking about it, the situations are very different. Dern is in a BP nominee and therefore a much more widely seen film than Close was.

Lol she’s not vulnerable to anything.

Pugh could win at BAFTA but this likely wouldn’t change the result at the Oscars.

Glenn Close and Laura Dern are both actresses who were nominated for Oscars in the last two years and that is about where you lose me with this comparison.

She’s not facing an acclaimed performance like Colman’s was, so she’s probably the safest Oscar winner.

Chances are they’re all safe locks now. The leads are not even up against their Comedy/Musical Globe winning counterparts so no other nominees have had a chance to gain any sort of momentum.

So basically Close needs to get nominated in a BP nominee in order to finally win. Hopefully Hillbilly Elergy is that film for her.

Unfortunately as baffling and inexplicable as it is Laura Dern is going to win an undeserved Oscar. I will never understand the stubbornness of the voters this year – why when given such better options do they continue to vote for her? Didn’t they see the other performances? This will forever be a head scratcher. The only hope for her not winning was if SAG had gone for either Johansson or Robbie. I am predicting Pugh wins at BAFTA but it’s too late to stop this nonsense from happening ): I hope to be proven wrong! Anyone but Dern!

The comparison is weak but yes I’d say she can just about potentially lose if Florence Pugh wins BAFTA and the backlash against Little Women’s lack of recognition continues.

    (She’s locked though)

Did you notice how Hollywoodish the Bafta’s were this year? Also, people were predicting JLO would beat Dern at the Globes, not only that didn’t happen but she was also snubbed at the Oscars.

Dern is a lock win. All 4 categories and that’s unfortunate. Most boring acting awards season this decade.

You realise all 4 went 20/20 2 years ago? So I guess it’s a tie.
