It kind of makes me feel a bit bad for Riz Ahmed, honestly. I have a feeling there is a chance he’ll go the way of Ethan Hawke and Adam Sandler… Gives, possibly, the best performance of a given year, but gets snubbed from even a nomination.

If I had a dollar for every time I see these nonsensical comparisons.

Me with Mulligan and Collette/Nyong’o comparisons…

I wouldn’t call it nonsensical. I think there’s a good chance he gets nominated, but I probably would have said the same about Ethan Hawke.

Adam Sandler got fucked up by the studio submitting him at the Globes in comedy, his chances died there.
Ethan Hawke was in such a small film with no great support from its studio, luckily they did get a screenplay nod.

It’s not nonsensical but the comparisons are kinda off.

Possibly, you’re right. It’s not like I wouldn’t want him to get in… I find his film far more interesting than most of the other possible Best Actor contenders. I just get the feeling it’s the sort of performance that could unjustly be snubbed. And we get, at least, one of those every year, I think. Even Lopez in Hustlers.

By the way, does anyone know if Judas And The Black Messiah is eligible for these awards or not?

    This, you’re right
But the movie is a drama right? I don’t know why they submitted in comedy

Hopefully the same thing doesn’t happen to Promising Young Woman. Although at least that one is a dramedy which Uncut Gems wasn’t (the whole point of the marketing of the film was “Adam Sandler in a serious role!”)

Although I do think Mulligan is getting in at the Globes regardless of category placement.

Inspired choices from Boston. I could definitely see Flanigan also winning in New York.

Sidney Flanagan really just came out of nowhere and gave one of the best performances of the year. I see you girl!
