Philip, it’s that EEAAO is just a clusterfork of a mess. What does Hollywood media see in it that much? And if EEAAO wins BP, then kiss Dune 2’s chances goodbye, and it doesn’t matter if Villeneuve makes the Citizen Kane of SF films. EEAAO is just so unworthy when compared to an Inception, Force Awakens, Dune, Arrival, Avengers: Endgame.
Seeing how these films aren’t in competition in the same year, the comparison doesn’t really make much sense.
Dune 2 was never gonna win the Oscar for best picture.
EEAAO isn’t just a Sci fi film.
You are free to not like it, but to call it a “clusterfork” and then list Force Awakens and Endgame as better films? Haha.

I vibe with Cate’s sentiment and I love her but girl, if you are not interested in televised speeches and don’t want to win – maybe don’t show up or back out of the competition. I understand her doing Critics Choice since voting is still on but she doesn’t need to do any campaigning after that.
Anyways this is all hyperbole

Huns, remember when The Queen’s Gambit only won Emmys for its 5 male producers and its male director at the Emmys while the central female star, Anya Taylor-Joy, won nothing? Obviously, Kate Winslet was pure English excellence and deserved.

That user say batman v superman( among other movies, doing a ridiculous mix between very good movies and regular movies) was a better action movie than top gun maverick. I prefer my roses whiteHoneys, I just love the excellence of those people who attended the Critics Choice but not the Globes. Brendan Fraser, Cate Blanchett, Amanda Seyfried after doing her musical… I just want HFPA to lose influence.
Cate was doing promotion for Tar in the UK I believe. Brendan was never going (using his past trauma for press) and I guess Amanda was working. It’s not surprising that people missed the Globes, it was a Tuesday night.
Zendaya didn’t attend either event, Daniel Radcliffe was in a show in NYC. Jean Smart wasn’t there either.

Moreover Cate may not want the attention but there are several hundreds of crew members who are part of the film who may want the accolades for various reasons.

Anya still won awards tho. It just happened that at the Emmys she was against Kate who swept the awards. It happens.

campaigning may not be entirely her choice. Contracts usually spell out in advance what kind of campaigning or promotion the actors must do. Doing promotion tours for the film are standard. Cate is a big enough star to not attend award ceremonies, if she wanted.
She wants to win, the whole act is kind of ridiculous. She did the same thing during Blue Jasmine.

While I don’t love EEAAO and Michelle Y is not an actress I revere I can see why POCs and Asians in particular might want her to win. I am Chinese and my entire family is rooting for her. Cate is one of my favorite actors so I am biased. I know Cate will get another opportunity but she is over 50. But I know this may be Michelle’s only real opportunity to win given her age and her race. I have met Cate a few times and she would be happy either way. I will be happy either way as well.
