I want to be as positive as some of you but idk. Michelle not winning when the movie overperformed in wins, compared to the GG, is just giving red flag. Not to mention, this should’ve been one of the easiest places for Yeoh to win. I don’t know guys, I’m kinda scared for Yeoh now. And I know TÁR doesn’t seem like a SAG thing and that EEAAO overperformed there, but this is Cate Blanchett we are talking about. Maybe girl will just sweep.

One of the reasons why I would’ve loved to see Michelle Yeoh won. For Cate this win was nothing. She doesn’t want to win, shows no interest at all. It would’ve been more meaningful if the award was give to someone like Yeoh.

At least this time the CC could’ve went with a tie, it would’ve made the race a little exciting. Now I believe Cate is taking it for the rest of the season. Now I think Ke Huy Quan will be the sole acting winner from EEAAO

This is so silly.  Michelle Yeoh is not wanting of any career.   She already has had a long career.  She is 60 yrs old.  Why would she need an oscar at this stage in her life?  It’s not as if she were an up and coming actress with no prospects.  Cate doesn’t need it, but Michelle doesn’t need it either.  If the intent of an oscar is to create opportunities for someone then it should always be the youngest because they would benefit the most from it.

Trifecta (for a second time in her career) + Volpi Cup + Golden Globe & Critics Choice, I love Michelle, but Cate will be winning the Oscar on Oscar night

Everything Everywhere All At Once for BP

    SOS for AOTY

    Succession for Best Series

`Realistically, no one “needs” an Oscar. But the Oscars desperately need to diversify their winners. Giving Cate Blanchett a third Oscar for another Oscar baity performance when you have WOC with just as deserving performances in more innovative cinema rubs me the wrong way. It’s the same argument people have been using against Adele/Beyoncé at the Grammys, but at least the Grammys have taken somewhat of risks in recent history.

Yikes deluxe. I thought the idea was bringing tv viewers BACK TO WATCHING movie awards. When you completely snub the eventual north american boxoffice champ for 2022, you’re screwing up in reverse.

Money doesn’t equal good. Why do people just assume because a film made a ton of money it is the best?

This would be the best picture lineup.

    Top Gun
    Black Panther
    Doctor Strange
    Avatar
    Jurassic World
    Minions
    Batman
    Thor
    Spider-Man
    Sonic 2

O yes, Best Picture Nominee Sonic 2 lol

We should celebrate the fact CC didn’t do any tie and chose only one winner per category

"EGOT" and "Triple Crown of Acting" winner: VIOLA DAVIS!!!!

I think the usual argument has been that WOC in Best Actress are not in Best Picture nominated films, which was true of recent WOC nominees like Andra Day and Viola Davis (except for The Help).

However, Michelle Yeoh is not only in what appears to be a BP nominee, but a seemingly top 2 contender, so that argument doesn’t make sense. Still, this is really the only place where TAR will realistically be awarded on Oscar night, except for Score (what was that?). They really don’t give two acting awards to one movie that often, and Ke Huy Quan appears like he’s locked.

Tar can’t win score, it’s not eligible.

Diversifying winners won’t automatically result in diversified winners in the future.  What we need is an interest by the film industry to create films and roles for people of diverse backgrounds, stories, culture and race.  Nearly 70% of the US population is white; most of those people want to see themselves on screen.  The film industry is in the business of making money.  So we need rich minority people to use their money and influence to create those opportunities.  Unfortunately, most of them are not really interested in the film industry because it is not an industry where making lots of money is easy.  Only until people of color put the effort in supporting other people of color will anything change.  I am saying this as an Asian person.  My entire life nobody in my circles of well to do and rich friends relatives acquaintances have had the faintest interest in investing in the film industry to promote films and media for people of color.

    Yes, because EEAAO doesn’t qualify.

The film industry is in the business of making money

It’s not like EEAAO didn’t make the film industry a ton of money.

So we need rich minority people to use their money and influence to create those opportunities. Unfortunately, most of them are not really interested in the film industry because it is not an industry where making lots of money is easy

All of this is just untrue.
