Trailer is dropping tomorrow according to their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/AnnapurnaPics/videos/1522037697807561/
They have an August 4th release date set, which would be a bit early for awards, but you can bet that if this is great it will be a major contender.

I just don’t want it to be a carbon copy of Selma.April 11, 2017 at 1:50 pm #1202063584

Because all race riot movies are the same?
No, I don’t want it to be like that where it actually had an inkling of a chance and then controversy surrounded it and ruined its chances because people dismissed as another race movie. Or become a frontrunner and then suffer the same fate ala Zero Dark Thirty.
This is actually one of my most anticipated this year. Don’t check, bitch. Don’t you know I’m like the last person to even group all movies with racial themes together?
And no, don’t bring up The Birth of a Nation as a comparison since that movie was not good.April 11, 2017 at 1:57 pm #1202063587

These actors are too young! I don’t know how I feel about this. They edited the trailer as it this is a Paul Greengrass film.April 12, 2017 at 6:53 am #1202064290
How young are they looking? (Work computer, can’t view) Obviously this was a pretty all-ages event but to be fair there were plenty of young people in the riots: the one who beat the 70-year-old man to death while looting his store, the two younger buddies who died in a fire while looting, Hermon Ector dying for no reason trying to stop the looting, and the firefighter who died while rescuing someone, all under 30, except the one friend who was IIRC 32.April 12, 2017 at 6:56 am #1202064294
The early release date means they’re not confident in its commercial prospects. I’m a little shaky after seeing the trailer the movie will under perform artistically. Which sucks because Bigelow needs to be upheld not Affleck or Lee –- who both benefited from a narrative where she was yesterday’s news. And no one but her lead actress cared who had the humiliation of losing to a twat.April 12, 2017 at 6:58 am #1202064296
Just watched it on a workaround site, it does look a little young, but that’s probably just for the market appeal. I can feel the artistic liberties already starting, but, what’s a historical film without one?
I really don’t give a shit about Bigelow but meh, worth checking out at least.
John Boyega looks gud in that uniform.April 12, 2017 at 7:16 am #1202064318
Looks interesting. Basing it around the sort of not that well known but shocking Algiers motel incident is quite smart.April 12, 2017 at 7:48 am #1202064347
Hmm I expected it to be stronger. It’s fine though. It was fun seeing those nigger and “race baiting” comments from racists and Trumpies, though.April 12, 2017 at 8:33 am #1202064402
It looks so intense and one of the first real contenders for Best Picture. It will depend entirely on how Annapurna campaigns for it.
