- Alejandro G. Iñárritu (The Revenant)
- Tom McCarthy (Spotlight)
- Adam McKay (The Big Short)
- George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road)
- Ridley Scott (The Martian)
All five feature film nominees are scheduled to attend.
The inaugural nominees for the new DGA Awards category Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film are:
- Fernando Coimbra (A Wolf at the Door)
- Joel Edgerton (The Gift)
- Alex Garland (Ex Machina)
- Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl)
- László Nemes (Son of Saul)
February 5, 2016 at 12:22 pm #214760My analysis on DGA can be found on my blog: http://www.theawardsconnection.com/home/2016/2/2/andrews-2015-dga-award-predix
My hunch is Miller winds up prevailing but it won’t be terribly surprising if anyone (besides Scott) triumphs. If McKay or McCarthy wins, the Best Picture Oscar race is over.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 5, 2016 at 2:45 pm #214763Hoping it’s Miller. It’s the only thing I’m invested this year with an actual shot at winning. All five nominees have a shot. I personally despise all the other films nominated – The Martian, Spotlight, Big Short, Revenant… ugh. If only we had something like Carol, Hateful Eight, Bridge of Spies etc going against Mad Max I’d be more excited. Miller being the only deserving one makes me nervous because these guilds and the Academy always f*ck up.
My Brazilian boy Fernando Coimbra would make me super happy to win the newcomer award, but watch Nemes or Garland take it (I was leaning towards Nemes, but coming close to switching). BTW if Garland wins early in the night, it’s good news for Miller.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2016 at 9:09 am #214767It’s telling how, if Miller (deservedly) wins Mad Max is STILL not a Best Picture threat. And the reasons for that, imo, makes me want to throw eggs.
Yeah, it’s a shame, but that’s how it goes with the Oscars. I’ll take what I can get with them, and it’s really cool that Miller is even a threat for Director.

[/quote]It’s time for a revolution, generally the last resort in attempting to ‘overthrow’ the current power base. I have lost patience.
Lol.
