Arrival, Arrival, Arrival. Biggest acting snub in the 2010s with all things considered. She’s Amy first of all, hit all the precursors and the film did very well in the other categories. Guess the wrong genre can really turn off voters.March 30, 2021 at 5:28 am #1204165544
I thought she was surprisingly terribly bland in The Fighter though. Deserved to win for Doubt and The Master.March 30, 2021 at 5:29 am #1204165546
she was honestly so good in arrival !! and in my opinion a way better performance than the winner’s that yearMarch 30, 2021 at 6:15 am #1204165600
She definitely did not deserve nods for American Hustle or Vice. Adèle Exarchopoulos, Emma Thompson and Brie Larson would’ve been far superior choices than she was in the former. Emily Blunt, Elizabeth Debicki or Claire Foy would’ve been better nominees than she was for the latter.
I agree with the rest of her nods (Junebug yet to be seen). She should’ve been nominated for Arrival as well.March 30, 2021 at 6:17 am #1204165603
The Master is her only good nomination (Junebug unseen).March 30, 2021 at 6:27 am #1204165614
Absolutely not. She only deserved for Junebug and The Master

Everything expect Vice she deserved, I personally would have put in Michelle Yeoh, Claire Foy, or Emily Blunt. But she got snubbed for Enchanted and Arrival (which both were win worthy)March 30, 2021 at 6:56 am #1204165641
I think she should’ve won for JUNEBUG and THE MASTER.
Of her other nominations, I don’t think she should’ve been there for VICE or AMERICAN HUSTLE.
I’m sort of on the fence about THE FIGHTER and DOUBT but I’m leaning towards no.
She was snubbed for ENCHANTED and especially ARRIVAL.

I find American Hustle a deplorable film and it did not deserve ten Academy Award nominations but what Amy Adams does in it is quite outstanding. She plays on the vulnerability of this con woman who deep down is an innocent figure besotted by a life of crime. It’s a poorly written character (as is the entirety of the film) but what Adams does not take a one dimensional approach with her work and I think with any other performer in the role, it would have just been a thankless bimbo type character
(as it was probably characterised as in the writing).
I did prefer Emma Thompson’s performance to actually almost all of those nominated but I would have dropped Meryl from the lineup instead. Which is weird because I don’t think I would have nominated Unoriginal Hustle for anything else above the line.

This may sound stupid but I actually think her performance in The Muppets is better than almost all of her nominated performances.

Junebug (And it would have been a great win)
The Master (And it would have been a great win)
Should have been nominated
ArrivalMarch 30, 2021 at 11:16 am #1204166185
The answer is YES
she should have been nominated for nocturnal animals and won for arrival.
What people should understand is that she is a very versatile actress. She has the capacity to fully control each of her character which is something that many actresses can’t do.
She is just like Meryl Streep. No matter how many people dislike one of her performances, there are many others who actually do.
So it’s really a matter of people’s taste and generally, just like meryl, each of Amy’s performance is so enjoyable.March 30, 2021 at 11:33 am #1204166248This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.March 30, 2021 at 11:43 am #1204166267
Her nods for Junebug and The Master are the only ones I truly loved. And she wasn’t close to my personal lists when it comes to Vice and American Hustle. But she was also snubbed for very deserving work in Arrival and Enchanted. In my personal top 3 with both of those. So, I guess it balances itself.
