What ever happened to the claim that Glenn would win for Sunset Boulevard? That’s what you people were saying last year. That she “doesn’t need to win because she can win for Sunset Boulevard in 2021”. Meanwhile, the movie never got made, a pandemic struck, and Glenn is now 73 (she’ll be 74 at next year’s Oscars). She played Norma Desmond on stage while she was still in her 40s(!).
And if you don’t believe what I’m saying, just take a look at the Best Actress threads from last year.

October 20, 2020 at 2:16 pm #1203791957And what is your point exactly?
They shoulda just let her win when she had a chance. They did her so wrong last year. They gave her all these awards and honors (not just precursor awards either), and in the end it was all for nothing. The Modern Master Award, The Spotlight Award, The Icon Award, Museum of Moving Image honor, etc etc. And it was all for nothing. Just like last year nobody expected a pandemic to break out this year, people should never take an opportunity for granted.

And I agree with that, but it was all a set up and we should have known, she did have a great performance, but it just wasn’t the right role or movie to win, everyone gave her the awards because she is Glenn Close, and at the end she lost to a stronger performance in a stronger movie.
She seems to have the biggest chance next year with a role that is transformative, with a well known director, in a Netflix movie, that also looks really baity and there is basically no competition in the category, and she also does look tremendous in the trailer, so she might win even if everyone rewarded her already just last year.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 20, 2020 at 3:15 pm #1203792179Productions were closed left and right due to the global pandemic, so that explains “Sunset Boulevard” at present. Close is a significant contender regardless at next year’s Oscars for “Hillbilly Elegy.” No point to this dumb thread whatsoever.

Besides, girl is carrying a bad baity this year so why shouldn’t this qualify as a good performance?
Just let the old lady have the award. She already had to lose for the most overrated performance in the most overrated movie of the year cause Fox Searchlight is the craziest campaigner.
