So this article claims that disney is considering poc for Ariel, specifically Zendaya/Keke Palmer. (It’s not affiliated with disney, so it’s contents shouldn’t be taken as fact, yet many people on twitter think it’s official news…)
What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I don’t care about Ariel’s race. I think they should audition everyone and choose the most talented actress/singer who fits the role best. However, I don’t think that Zendaya, keke palmer, or Ariana Grande (who’s reportedly also being considered), are the best options, as there are definitely more talented actresses who are better suited for Ariel.
Who would you want to see as Ariel (btw the character is 16)?June 14, 2018 at 11:04 am #1202565440
If this was the early 2000s, Lindsay Lohan would have been all over this and I’m sure still rants and raves that she wants to play Ariel still so I am taking this chance to ask Disney: No tell her no.
Ok given the pop star climate we got now: Grande would be the obvious pic (red hair and great voice and an actress as well) BUT woudn’t underestimate Dove Cameron (This girl is a Star) or Hailey Kilgore (Who killed it on the Tonys and every performance I’ve seen online from Once on This Island either. Just no Lohan or Zendaya (I like her don’t get me wrong but she also annoys me. A lot).

I was thinking of dove cameron too, the girl’s an emmy winner now and has proven to be a great singer. If they’re going with a disney channel star, she’s definitely the one, yet Zendaya gets so much more praise for her average talent.June 14, 2018 at 12:02 pm #1202565516

Completely agree about Dove. As far as Zendaya goes, she is very talented in my opinion but I can’t pinpoint why she comes across as so fake to me.June 14, 2018 at 12:41 pm #1202565554
i think Zendaya would be an amazing Airel … Im all for any race playing her … I think dove cameron looks like a 13 to and it would be difficult watching her play a part that required her to be the love interest. I think Zendaya looks a bit more mature and i think she would be great.

Vicica Fox as Ursula would be funJune 14, 2018 at 1:49 pm #1202565621
Honestly, I’m hoping that they pick an unknown for Ariel. Lily James was a breathe of fresh air and truly became the character because I had no prior perceptions of her as an actress. This could be a breakout role for a younger, unknown actress.
Emma Watson was great as Belle, but I don’t think any actress currently in the spotlight is capable of playing Ariel the way I see it needing to be played.
Grande hasn’t look like Ariel since 2010. Keke would be a horrible choice and she’s already done Cinderella anyways. Zendaya is cute, but I think they’re confining themselves by not searching beyond those bigger names, if that’s the case. Lohan shouldn’t even be considered since she can’t sing anymore from all the hard drugs and partying anyways. Had this movie been released in like 2002, she’d be the perfect choice, but that’s the past.June 14, 2018 at 6:43 pm #1202565784
Agree 100%. I’m assuming that the article isn’t entirely true and that disney is actually searching for the perfect actress for this role. Hopefully, we get some official announcements from disney themselves soon on the casting process or the actress who’s been cast.
