Not predicting it at all but Puss in Boots has enough momentum to pull off an unprecedented surprise animated feature win.
Not really though. Pinocchio literally won everything: Globe, CC, BAFTA, PGA, Annie’s, and VES. If Puss and Boots won even one prize I’d say it has a chance. But everyone in the industry is united behind Pinocchio. It’s one of the biggest locks of the night alongside All Quiet in International Film and Avatar 2 in Visual Effects.

Ice Merchants in Animated Short is also mine! In my brain again, Bonehead. Also kind of playing with the idea of going with The Red Suitcase in live action.

Looks that way now. But there’s always a shocker in these categories. I hope it’s here because I’m not a fan of that twig.

I prefer my roses whiteMarch 9, 2023 at 7:39 pm #1205340811It seems EEAAO is winning everything. So The Biggest Shocker will be if EEAAO only wins 1 or 2 Oscars

March 12, 2023 at 6:45 am #1205343866When I checked the odds here on Goldderby late last night I only have two categories now where my prediction isn’t in first place! The amazing thing about that is most of them were NOT in first place when I predicted them!
I only have one “no guts, no glory” prediction: 3rd place Colin Farrell for Best Actor.
My only other prediction that isn’t in first place is Martin McDonagh for Original Screenplay but that one I am totally uncertain about it, it could go to EEAAO in a sweep. Still, I am thinking they will want to give McDonagh an Oscar for what I think most people regard him as: a writer.

The short subjects always screw up my predictions! I could be happy with any of the five Live Action shorts winning – they are all really wonderful – but An Irish Goodbye made me laugh so hard I want it to win! I didn’t like Ice Merchants at all and think that category is a toss-up between The Boy and My Year Of Dicks.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 12, 2023 at 7:21 am #1205343964Now that I’ve actually seen some of All Quiet I’m doubling down on my Cinematography and Score predictions. All Quiet has great cinematography but a lot of the spots are super dark and the Academy usually doesn’t go with really dark films (even Blade Runner 2049 and Dune had a lot of extravagant lighting) plus they like flashy cinematography and Elvis fits the bill. As for Score, it isn’t really present for much of the film and when it is it gets really repetitive: I know at least one Academy voters shared the same sentiment on the annonymus ballots.
Some of this might be bias because I didn’t enjoy the film that much, had to stop 45 minutes into it, but I want to finish it after the Oscars are over so my predictions against it don’t cloud my judgement too much and then see what I think.
