It has been a minute since I started a new topic. I was sitting and thinking about what James Cameron will do for Avatar 2. The first Avatar was a groundbreaking film and it paved the way for the massive superhero films of today.

I do not believe a massive film has done virtual reality as of yet and we all know that James Cameron has always paved the way. Do you think he will do virtual reality for limited theaters or do you think he will find another way to be groundbreaking for cinema?

    Let’s talk!!!

I hope not. That sounds way too gimmicky. But since you talked about it, I wonder if Cameron’s been trying to figure out some new kind of innovation for this movie and that could be why he’s taking forever to make it. The original isn’t as popular as it was before, so I could see him trying to find some new way to hook people back into this story. I honestly wish he wasn’t working on anymore Avatar movies. As this thread indicates, Cameron has made some groundbreaking cinema, and I wish he’d try to do something new rather than retread a film that felt like more of a spectacle rather than a great story.

I am not sure what else he could do. Maybe he should focus on a more original story this time around.

I’m pretty sure that Cameron is focused on (at least for Avatar 2) underwater motion capture, as is discussed in this article: https://www.indiewire.com/2019/02/james-cameron-avatar-2-underwater-worlds-not-like-aquaman-1202043776/ and that’s why it has taken so long with these new sequels.

For Avatar 3 and 4, maybe? I mean the thing with Virtual Reality is you need it to be 100% immersive and it’s a very singular experience requiring a headset and everything. You would have to fit every theatre with that sort of tech and I don’t think it is feasible. 3D was pretty straightforward, it’s easy for someone to put on glasses.

Overall I am not sure. Doesn’t seem likely for Avatar 2 though.
