McDormand is amazing in Three Billboards and I don’t get the backlash to her win. McDormand is great in Fargo but Blethyn and Watson were more deserving honestly. I haven’t seen Nomadland yet. As for her win this year, I feel like it was McDormand’s honeymoon period as her first win was so long before her second. And as others have said, the competition wasn’t strong enough to beat McDormand who was the default pick given Nomadland being the Best Picture frontrunner and McDormand’s BAFTA win.April 27, 2021 at 9:27 pm #1204232599
Every time McDormand won there were better performances
95: Blethyn was wayyy better
2018: Hawkins was wayyy better
2021: Mulligan, Day and Kirby were wayyyy better.
She’s an overrated actress. Not deserving of three Oscars.
She should only have 1 and for supporting. LolApril 27, 2021 at 9:34 pm #1204232605
I have watched Fargo and that performance wasn’t challenging enough that year to be better than Emily Watson or Brenda Blethyn. They deserved the Oscar way more. She was good but the other roles were more difficult, especially that of Emily Watson.
I can’t even really see her as the leading lady in Fargo. The movie wasn’t really about her character. She really had more of a supporting role in that movie IMO.April 27, 2021 at 9:49 pm #1204232607
The odd thing is I think she was more deserving for her three supporting nominations then her lead ones. She was good in Fargo but these two recent Oscars just seem like Olive Kittridge in a new story.April 27, 2021 at 10:07 pm #1204232619
yes…absolutely she does
but one thing that i have to say : she won 2 Oscars at the weak performance of the other contender especially this yearApril 28, 2021 at 12:47 am #1204232849
She was not my first choice in any of her years, but those 3 wins are great.
I would REALLY loved that she wouldn’t had won for 3 Billboards, tho.
Is she iconic as Streep, Day-Lewis, Bergman or Nicholson? Nope.
And people talking about ”fast”, but:
– She’s older than Hepburn, Bergman and Streep when they all won a third;
– DDL got the 3 wins faster than her, I think he took 23 years, she took 24.April 28, 2021 at 3:51 am #1204233028
McDormand is easily the most limited actress who ever won three Oscars.
Having to watch her collecting her undeserved third win when a superior and MORE revered actress such as Glenn Close has ZERO was pure cruelty porn.
Those wins won’t absolutely age well.

Glenn and Frances like each other. After Glenn lost in 2019, Frances came and hugged her during the commercial break.April 28, 2021 at 6:26 am #1204233190
Out of these three, only Day-Lewis (and only maybe) deserves 3 Oscars.April 28, 2021 at 8:04 am #1204233298

Yup. She’s definitely repeated her Olive Kitteridge performance in three billboards and then Olive Kitteridge became homeless and decided to go on a road trip and stack Amazon boxes in Nomadland.
At least Streep became Margaret Thatcher for her Third Oscar.
And Day Lewis became Lincoln.April 28, 2021 at 8:20 am #1204233314
I still think Streep should’ve won her third for A CRY IN THE DARK…although in that instance, she was contending with Glenn Close.
I don’t object to the idea of Streep having 3 Oscars but her first two wins are the only ones I consider slam dunks. I would even say she only deserved like 9 or 10 of her nominations.
As for Daniel Day-Lewis, he definitely deserves three. I don’t mind his win for LINCOLN but I would’ve given that to Joaquin Phoenix. His third should’ve been for PHANTOM THREAD (and Oldman would get my vote for 2012 and the quest to give him an Oscar would’ve been completed then)
In terms of other three time winners, I am more mixed on Jack Nicholson. He definitely didn’t deserve it for AS GOOD AS IT GETS and even his win for TERMS OF ENDEARMENT feels like more of a default to me.
I support his CUCKOO’S NEST win but even then, Al Pacino is right there giving what might be his best performance in my book.

The fact that they gave her another Oscar this fast..
Poor Sally she really deserved it that year and she might never get another competitive chance again.
Meanwhile Frances might just star in another bp frontrunner in a few years and get in a split b.actress field that year and boom another Oscar.April 28, 2021 at 9:40 am #1204233388
Yes, she does. She deserved to win for all her three nominations.April 28, 2021 at 12:57 pm #1204233756
Watson and Blethyn blew her out of the water and we all know it.
Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Lambert Wilson, Benedetta (Actress, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor)
