Yes, she does. She deserved to win for all her three nominations.

I think you’re the first person I know who thinks Frances was better than Emily and Brenda in 96.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

I’m on the group that thinks that Fargo is her most deserving win of the three. She was amazing on that movie.

The way Frances doesn’t play the game of constant promotion (appearing in artificial late night interviews) makes all her 3 wins a lot cooler.

Answering another thread user, the fact Frances McDormand didn’t play a real person in Nomadland, doesn’t reduce her value. I preferred to see Mulligan winning this last Sunday? Yes. However, better seeing McDormand winning a 3rd than seeing Davis winning for a bordeline supporting performance (it smells like fraud category like Rooney Mara in Carol). I’d be ok to see Day winning too because she was the sole good aspect of her film (and she TRULY sang. And she was the LEAD of her film).

And it tires me too much to see lazy people claiming that McDormand repeats her characters along her films.

I’ve recently seen all of her Oscar winning performances again and I would rank them as

    1. Mildred (Three Billboards)

    2. Fern (Nomadland)

    3. Marge (Fargo)

McDormand in Fargo is category fraud.

The way I just now realized that Frances won for three portrayals of fictional characters that had never been on screen before. And without campaigning, just through sheer performance and talent. The power she has is truly unmeasurable.

    FYC - Oscars 2022:
NINE DAYS in all categories, including:
    - Best Picture
    - Best Director
    - Best Original Screenplay
    - Best Actor (Winston Duke)
    - Best Supporting Actress (Zazie Beetz)
    - Best Supporting Actor (Benedict Wong)

She was. It’s pretty much the consensus.

Where is it the consensus? Not on this plane of existence, I know that much.

She does, and it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks, her Oscars won’t be revoked and there won’t be unfunny thinkpieces about revoking.

The reason there’s headscratching around here is because she isn’t a stan favorite. Stans like to zero on glamor actresses and Foreign artsy fartsy ones like Hupert while Violets only stan their “queen”. McDormand is none of the three yet she beat them all. Now that’s a Queen w/o “”. Real deal.

She’s a great actress so…I guess. But that Nomadland win felt very anticlimactic. Her performances in Fargo & Three Billboards were much better.

The Fargo win was a strange one. I remember watching that film and was very surprised to find she won an Oscar. Was she really the best that year?

Might be unrelated to what your saying but I think the anti-climax there was because we knew it was coming due to the terribly organised ceremony. That category reveal would have been wild had Nomadland not just won Picture, rendering McDormand the pretty obvious winner of Actress given it had missed Cinematography. Not just that, but the whole energy-sapping nature of the change in category order made the awards after Picture seem quite dry and anticlimactic, plus McDormand had just given her speech. They basically manufactured an anti-climax in Actress to accommodate the move to put Actor last, which doubles down on the anticlimactic shambles in that category too.

She doesn’t deserve. Her win in Fargo is clearly a category fraud. I was so surprised when she won and yes she is no meryl Streep. I hope meryl will win two other oscars before the end of her career because she deserves at least 7 oscars to be honest if people are not too ignorant
