I know the threads for specific movies are made for people who like the movie in question but god this one’s gonna be fucking torture for me

Something that’s really been bothering me about this film is just how terrible an allegory for climate change it is. The entire problem with climate change is that the cause of it is so tied up in our economic system and energy infrastructure (and with the powerful people who benefit from not changing either of them) that it’s very difficult if not impossible to stop it without overhauling both of them. An earthbound comet is basically just a natural disaster not caused by humans those in power have no vested reason not to try and prevent.

This film’s premise is almost too thin to support a comedy sketch, let alone an entire feature. I would much prefer it if this film was just about climate change instead of playing coy about it. Like a modern day Dr. Strangelove.

So you have seen this movie?

Like a modern day Dr. Strangelove.

The fact that McKay was inspired by this movie to make Don’t look up.

    ?

You have made it pretty clear that you don’t like this movie and a specific actress from this movie through and through.

So you have seen this movie?

No, but that shouldn’t matter. I was objecting to the premise, not the film. Unless the film somehow refutes my points (did humans cause the comet to head toward Earth? is it in any powerful people’s best interest to ensure the comet stays on its path?), my criticism still stands. It’s a crappy allegory, that’s all I was saying.

I bet it wouldn’t be “crappy”  if it were directed by someone else 🥴

Knives have been sharpened the moment they announced this movie and their anger only grew with the casting announcement, so if this movie gets mixed reception I won’t be surprised, I can feel the critics are waiting to attack this movie lol . With that being said, it won’t change my opinion about this movie, I’m still gonna enjoy it, I’ve missed Jlaw.  It will be her first movie after taking such a long break from acting, plus all the actors involved are already worthy of a watch. Sorry haters but you can’t ruin this for me ❤️

Love all of this! There is always that one big profile movie that critics love to trash, but I don’t think it’s going to be Don’t Look Up. I think it’s going to be House Of Gucci. I agree that if this is bad, it won’t change my opinion on Jlaw. I just want an entertaining performance and an entertaining movie. DiCaprio has never taken on a project that was a complete failure. I’m quite sure it won’t start with DLU.

Good or bad I just hope critics will be fair to both movies.

This just screened to a group of critics here and… I wasn’t ready for this but… They’re raving it like crazy.

Like, they’re thinking this will get around 10 nods and win many of them. It has much more VFX than I expected. The original song is not an end-titles one but marks one of the funniest scenes, Streep can win her 4th, Original Screenplay win may be a lock, SAG Ensemble is in the bag, this is Leo’s best ever, the film’s insanely funny kinda raving I’m talking about. I don’t know what to think right now.

Your faves are over I fear! The Meryl and Leo comments are probably over-exaggerated as is the screenplay lock (though I do think it can win for that and editing), but the tea has been spilt!

I don’t believe it. I understand I may be somewhat biased but I just don’t see how this is going to be any better than his last two.
