Well… in light of Build Back Better & the strange notes of surprise about Omicron, I’m not sure we can say that anymore but lol yeah ofc the bar is WAY too low & yes the efforts to put it into the bill in the first place were there so… yeah.
Tbh if I’m honest, Meryl Streep was handed a Selina Meyer role in a different garb and it didn’t work. Susan Orlean is basically a less interesting Selina Meyer. There’s really not much else there.

I liked this more than I thought I would. I disliked the editing and the lack of subtleness, but it was funny and had some inspired ideas. J-Law, Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett were great. Meryl not so much, though.
I’d give it a 7/10. Not deserving of any Oscar noms, but definitely worth a watch.

The plot and story is so stupid that it doesn’t even try to challenge the climate change theory it’s supposed to be about. The characters just go on monotonously preaching about the end of the world with nobody even learning anything in or out of the movie. The end was so fake and cheesy. THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!
As for the acting, WOW……………

Funnily this is the 2nd Orlean Streep has played (Susan Orlean in Adaptation. I wonder what means).
Well ignore the rant. For me it was basically a Selina Meyer role and I think… it was maybe just a bit too broad? Hey I liked the film a lot, the satire is cutting and balanced very well with the slapstick and the sheer tragedy of it all, and it’s exhausting on purpose, which I like a LOT. I’m guessing Orlean was a David Sirota inspired character and let’s just say I don’t particularly find the character entirely insightful or new because we saw it done better on Veep. If anything I’d have preferred her to go full on rampaging.

Anyway, I watched this a few hours ago. Leo was the standout, and I really liked Rob Morgan and Melanie Lynskey. I thought Chalamet was pretty good considering his limited screen time.
Don’t understand the Lawrence love. She came off as forced to me. I don’t understand how she got $25 million for this role but that’s another topic.
The jokes were hit or miss, the tone was a bit all over the place but when I paused it at 1 hour 47 minutes in I was surprised – it didn’t feel that long. Loved the dinner scene but the end credits scene kind of ruined the ending a bit.
I can see Leo getting that 5th slot in Actor. I’ve got Dinklage for now but I’m not confident in his chances.
