But I think with how overdue she is they could over compensate.

I won’t deny that’s logical thinking. But many people think the Oscars aren’t big ScarJo fans, and that’s caused them to snub her when she had been seen as worthy in the past, with the most famous example being Lost in Translation. You could be right though.

If Scarlett gets the double nod, she may end be the new Jamie Foxx. He was double nominated in 2005 and has not been nominated since

I want to see it happen with either of them

Taron Egerton (Rocketman) for best actor. Charlize Theron looks great in Bombshell teaser

They made a rule a long time ago specifically saying they can only get nominated once for each category.

    Such a stupid rule. I can’t even

If it happens, which I doubt, it can only help her. She’s been great since Ghost World and never phones it in. jmho

I don’t think so. They haven’t embraced her before, so I think they wouldn’t want to give her two nods on her first go at the Oscars.

    Jamie Foxx.
    Jessica Lange.
The guy from Best years of our Lives who got both nods for the same role.
And I’m sure an actress like in the 40s too. I wanna say Thelma Ritter, but probably not.

I still think it’s a shame Kate Winslet wasn’t double nominated for Revolutionary Road and The Reader. Yes, she won for the latter, but I think she should have been nominated in supporting there and lead for the former. Winning two Oscars in one night would have been so special and deserving.

Harold Russell was only competed in support, but also received a special Honorary Oscar for the role, as well.

However, Barry Fitzgerald was nominated for lead and support for the same role in “Going My Way.” Bing Crosby won for the same movie in lead, but Fitzgerald won the support. The rules were changed to prevent that.

Actors can only get one but other categories can have the same person nominated twice. Steven Soderbergh was nominated twice for Best Director in 2000. It is sort of a dumb rule. If you gave two of the best performances of the year you should be nominated. Golden Globes allow it but it hardly ever happens. Dennis Hopper in 1986 is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

Streep was double nominated in Musical/Comedy in 2009 (Julie and Julia + It’s Complicated) and Tim Robbins for Musical/Comedy in 1992 (The Player + Bob Roberts)

Personally though Emily Blunt deserved to be nominated twice last year over Aparicio/De Tavira.

Yeah, I didn’t look that up at all. I thought it was Russell. Sorry.

I agree that Emily Blunt is a talented actress and deserves all the awards there is. But Mary Poppins, Sicario, A Quiet Place and The Girl on the train, were not best picture nominated.

But still, SAG, Globes and BAFTA nominated her. That is baffling for sure

De Tavira gave the best performance in her category.

Brad Pitt is not going to get a double nod. Is Scarlett Johansson more likely?
