I’m sure many of us have imagined a certain actor being cast in a certain role, one that they’d be perfect for, especially when it comes to things like book-to-film adaptations. But of course, we also know that such a casting may never truly happen. But every once in a while, by some miraculous fate, it does happen. It’s happened at least twice for me.
When I read The Great Gatsby, in my junior year of high school in 2007, I imagined Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, never knowing that he’d actually play him six years later. And in all honestly, he was perfect in the 2013 film version and I thought the movie was quite good (although I don’t think it should’ve won its two Oscars over 12 Years A Slave in those categories, but that’s a discussion for another day).
Then, in my senior year, I had to read Jane Eyre. Like The Great Gatsby, I imagined a whole bunch of actors in the various roles, one of them being Judi Dench as the housekeeper Mrs. Fairfax. And then, lo and behold, she did play Mrs. Fairfax in the 2011 film adaptation, and did so wonderfully. Although Keira Knightley did not portray Jane Eyre as I had originally envisioned, Mia Wasikowska did a fine job in the role.
But what about you guys? Did any of your dream casting choices in any film actually end up happening for real?

ReplyCopy URLNovember 4, 2021 at 7:43 pm #1204558212This has apparently been a good week for me as another dream casting choice I had recently came true. Cynthia Erivo was one of several actresses who I suggested should play Elphaba in the upcoming film adaptation of the musical, Wicked. Now, that’s going to be a reality.

I’m a big fan of Joaquin (since To Die For) but when I first saw the pics of him in costume, I laughed. It was a gaff since I posted the laugh. I’m going to have to see him in the film to Guage whether I think he’s miscast.
My belief is, he’s going to nail the perf and maybe garner another Oscar nod.
But I think he looks funny in that costume.ReplyCopy URLThe Sunne in Splendour.

We will see. He is, I think, The Greatest Actor Of His Generation: Joaquin Phoenix is Better than Leo, Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale
