Dune seems like across the board contender, at least for below the line/Craft categories. Especially Hans Zimmer

On separate note, who you guys think should play Irulan Corrino?

My money is on Elle Fanning. Tall (Equals Chalamet), Blonde, Natural green eyes. Less busy and approachable than the likes of Taylor Joy and Pugh.

Elle is definitely shorter if their Woody Allen film is representative, but I don’t think Irulan should necessarily be Paul’s height? If they’ll keep their trend of casting “it factor” actors it would probably be Anya Taylor-Joy or something.

BTW I’ve read reviews of two people who have watched the early screenings about a year ago, and what they’ve said aligns perfectly with what the people who have watched the previews this week said about the movie, so I think they’re legit.

They said Isaac and Skarsgard give the best performances (though Chalamet is excellent, and Momoa surprisingly good). They also gave it 9/10 and 10/10, so I’m pretty confident of the movie.

She is, but compared to Saoirse Ronan and Pugh, She’s taller. Chalamet would dwarf both Pugh and Ronan by a lot.

and Taylor Joy is booked for the next 2.5 years

Why on earth did it take so long to get a Dune thread?

A week on the trailer is pretty close to 14m views, and passed the second Shang Chi trailer that released last month, so it’s doing pretty good! I came across someone on reddit who claims to have seen it and has some interesting things to say.

When asked about Isaac’s odds for supporting:

“I definitely think it’s in the cards. My top 3 performances from it are Chalamet, Isaac and Skarsgard. It’s not Chalamet’s best performance or anything but he’s as solid as ever. Isaac is also great and has some pretty badass scenes. As for Skarsgard, he makes for a really horrifying and menacing villain who is commanding every time he’s on screen”

    On winning best picture:

“I really enjoyed it and it’s definitely more amped up than BR2049, but I think we’ll just have to see how the race starts to form. I can definitely see it happening though, especially if it’s a box office hit”

    On pacing:

“No, I think it’s a much better paced film than BR2049. The action scenes are spread out pretty evenly (probably like one major one for each act) and it’s not exposition heavy either. I think it’s a film that very much moves with purpose and definitely feels like it has a lot of story to tell being part 1 of a larger story, but it never feels overstuffed or like it moves too quick if that makes sense.”

If Chalamet is one of the top three with what seems like an average performance for him (let’s say Little Women tier), then I don’t think acting noms are really in the cards for this movie.

Thanks for this scoop, really appreciated. Yeah, I’m open to acting casue people get nominated for anything but that’s the most iffy of all above the lines. Picture, Director, Adapted, Editing should happen.

Assuming this isn’t coincidentally one of the same few people who gave their more expanded review of the film right after the screenings last fall, it’s interesting that everyone keeps citing these performances as the best in the film. I mean, I’m not surprised because each role is juicy in its own way and played by a fantastic actor. But I am surprised at the lack of Ferguson buzz. Denis has talked about really wanting to elevate the importance of how pivotal her character’s decisions are and highlight the power of the female characters. And the size of her role is second only to Paul. Maybe Jessica isn’t getting expanded as much as I thought?

But Jessica doesn’t need expansion cause she is a co-lead with Paul already in the book until the time jump (she doesn’t have much to do after sadly). So if Ferguson isn’t mentioned, there are 2 possibilities:

Dune feedback is the same person’s opinion recycled several times so that gives false impression of more people chiming in

    or

Other characters/actors simply clicked with those who saw the movie and talked about it more than Jessica/Ferguson for whatever reason

I’m surprised too cause Jessica is the standout character in the books. But like I said, it may bejust one opinion repeated/copypasta several times.

Well Isaac probably gets the biggest scene in the movie, Skarsgard definitely is gonna chew scenery with the best of them, and that’s always fun, and Chalamet is the protagonist, so it isn’t shocking that Ferguson’s role perhaps stands out a bit less.

Ferguson’s BIG scene is just as big oif not bigger and she has a number of big scenes through out in the book and the script (doubtful script changed so much that it robbed her off her big moments). So I’d say most likely it’s the same person’s opinion not 3 or 4 different people having the same preference for Chalamet-Isaac-Skarsgaard.
