Omg I’ve seen every single one of these!

Hard to choose one, but ultimately I went with Shimura (Ikiru), in a film which changed me at a cellular level. A film which, I didnt think anyone had seen..

Lots of omissions up there. Tons.

    Thank you!

It’s truly shameful that no Asian actor has ever received a lead Oscar nomination. And how many Asians have been nominated/won in supporting? Umeki? Wantanabe? Ngor? Anyone else?

    Darrin!

Nope. Not as actors. Hailee Steinfeld (Philipino) was the last one who had a shot.

These are only East Asians though. There were some Asian lead nominees in history. There is a wiki page. You can look it up from there.

Was unaware of how much more receptive the Globes and BAFTA have been to east Asians.

I’d go with Michelle Yeoh. She was absoutely superb in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. At least BAFTA nominated her even if the Oscars didn’t. It’ll be great to see her in the sequel two weeks from now on Netflix. If it somehow lives up to the original, I hope Netflix (and Weinstein, who is a producer) will campaign for her.

Ziyi got the BAFTA nod, not Yeoh.

I have always been a fan of Maggie Cheung’s career !… AMAZING ACTRESS curiously never nominated for a Globe, a SAG, a BAFTA or an Oscar ????

Fantastic poll. I actually went with Umeki. I think she’s far more interesting in “Flower Drum Song” than in her Oscar-winning “Sayonara” turn.
