    Winslet refuses to do Broadway.

    Why is that?

I’m guessing because she has never done professional theater and Broadway can be pretty tough on newcomer movie stars who appear there. Julia Roberts and Julianne Moore both were criticized as being movie stars not stage actors. (Although Nicole Kidman did pretty well in her stage roles considering she had never even been in a school play I think.)

Jessica Lange had a rough time transferring too. Her first two times were bombs but her third got her a Tony. (She also did stuff in London prior to her Tony which helped her improve her stage acting.)

It’s nothing she can’t do if she puts her mind to it. Then again, maybe I’m being selfish because I just want her to complete her EGOT.

She can always pull a John Legend/Ryan Murphy and produce a play revival.

True, but that won’t give her both the EGOT and Triple Crown. Besides, Kate is more adept at acting in a play than producing a play. I’ve never known her to produce a play before.

^^She was just 19 when she made her screen debut in “The Heavenly Creatures” and a string of very successful movies followed pretty much right of the bat, “Titanic” has made her a superstar at 22 and it all culminated with an Oscar for “The Reader”. It’s understandable that she committed herself to the big screen.

Alan Arkin is indeed nominated for the second time for his turn on “The Kominsky Method” in a catch-all Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category of 8 nominees. If he wins, he’ll be 25th person and 10th male actor to win Triple Crown of Acting.

Among TCA winners there’s one actor who can extend his record and that’s Jeremy Irons who’s nominated as Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for “Watchmen”. Irons is a curious case with 1/1 track record at the Oscars and Tonys while it’s his fourth acting nod at the Emmys (he won twice previously). Therefore it’s only his 6th TCA nomination – the least among living TCA winners (Thomas Mitchell and Melvyn Douglas also had 6 while Paul Scofield had even less with only 4).

Jessica Lange and Viola Davis were once again eligible for what they always do on television – Ryan Murphy project and “How to Get Away with Murder”, respectively – but curiously both were excluded this time.

If Blanchett sweeps for Mrs America she’ll be half way to her triple crown.

Surely a Tony will be achieved in her career too. She loves the theatre

^^She’ll actually be already 2/3 for Triple Crown and perhaps halfway towards EGOT.

She was already nominated for a Tony Award in one of the best line-ups ever:

Best Actress in a Play 2017:
    Cate Blanchett, The Present
    Jennifer Ehle, Oslo
    Sally Field, The Glass Menagerie
    Laura Linney, The Little Foxes
    Laurie Metcalf, A Doll’s House, Part 2 – winner

Field would’ve achieved Triple Crown had she won this.

Completely forgotten Lange was in The Politician.

There are a few actors who picked up nominations for every branch of the Triple Crown over the last decade, but none managed to achieve it:

    Tom Hanks (1 x Oscar, 1 x Emmy, 1 x Tony)

    Adam Driver (2 x Oscar, 4 x Emmy, 1 x Tony)

    Cate Blanchett (2 x Oscar, 1 x Emmy, 1 x Tony)

    Bryan Cranston (1 x Oscar, 6 x Emmy, 2 x Tony)

    Mark Rylance (1 x Oscar, 1 x Emmy, 4 x Tony)

Of those, Mark Rylance only needs the Emmy and Bryan Cranston only the Oscar. Tom Hanks has tons of Emmys but none for acting so he’s 1/3. Blanchett is 1/3. Driver is still on 0 but he’s the youngest by a long way so he may well get there eventually.

72nd Primetime Emmy Awards didn’t change much in terms of Triple Crown of Acting with the exception of Tony winner Billy Crudup being 2/3 on his way after winning an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for “The Morning Show”.

How do you think would revered male film actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Joaquin Phoenix, or Christian Bale fare on stage??

I think there always seems to be a huge disconnect between the acting chops someone has in film as opposed to on theatre.

Because film acting isn’t always about personal technique.
