What roles do you guys think Elizabeth Taylor should have won an Oscar for?
What roles do you think she should have been nominated for?September 11, 2013 at 2:09 pm #112524
She should have won for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and she did. That is the only Oscar, in my opinion, that she should have received.September 11, 2013 at 3:11 pm #112525
1958 CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF
1966 WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?September 11, 2013 at 3:12 pm #112526
Cat On a Hot Tin Roof and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Two iconic performances in two iconic films based on two iconic plays.
The lead actors from each film should have won as well.September 11, 2013 at 3:16 pm #112527
Virginia Woolf and Suddenly, Last Summer…September 11, 2013 at 3:27 pm #112528
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) – One of the top three Best Actress winning performances, next to Meryl Streep in “Sophie’s Choice” (1982) and Vivien Leigh in “Gone with the Wind” (1939)- truly iconic.
Should have also won for “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” (1958) and “Suddenly, Last Summer” (1959)
Should have recieved nominations for “National Velvet” and “A Place in the Sun”

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof & Virginia Woolf. My understanding is she was set to win, the frontrunner, for Hot Tin Roof but her public scandal sullied her chances..
^ I agree she should’ve been nom’ed for A Place in the Sun..September 11, 2013 at 4:27 pm #112530
What do you guys think about her work in Giant?September 11, 2013 at 4:51 pm #112531
She’s good in Giant (aged well in it). Day (The Man Who Knew Too Much), Mansfield (The Girl Can’t Help It), and Barbara Stanwyck (There’s Always Tomorrow) should have been contenders.September 11, 2013 at 4:55 pm #112532
Not sure she was nominated, but A Place in the Sun anyone?
She was terrific in Father of the Bride as wellSeptember 11, 2013 at 5:37 pm #112533
She was fabulous in A PLACE IN THE SUN…but
Shelley Winters was nominated for best actress instead
of Elizabeth and Monty of course was nominated for best actor.
She had 5 nominations for best actress…
I wouldve added
1951 a place in the sun
1956 giantSeptember 11, 2013 at 6:55 pm #112534
Sorry but no way should Taylor have won Actress for Suddenly, Last Summer up against Simone Signoret for Room at the Top. THAT is an iconic performance.September 11, 2013 at 9:16 pm #112535
She’s so good in Woolf. She earned it and she won. I loved her in Giant, Suddenly Last Summer, Elephant Walk, Shrew, Tin Roof, Father of the Bride, National Velvet; even Cleopatra and Father of the Bride.
I dont think I would have given her a second Oscar for anything else, but who could begrudge her. She was so divine.September 11, 2013 at 9:19 pm #112536
She’s actually pretty decent in BUtterfield-8, though she didn’t deserve the Oscar for it.September 11, 2013 at 11:58 pm #112537
She’s fabulous in ‘Butterfield 8’. Unpopular as it may be I completely agree with her win.
She’s my #1 in………….
1959 – Suddenly Last Summer
1960 – Butterfield 8
1966 – Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
I’d also be more than happy fo her to have won in 1958 as well but would probably give it to Roz that year for ‘Auntie Mame’.
