Mildly curious about the eclectic choices of favorites and the range of things some have seen –

    Danny DeVito: “Attack the Block”
Zack Efron: “The Skin I Live In” (also mentions “Shame”)
    Ed
    Helms: “Anonymous”
    Emma Stone: “Bridesmaids”
    Robin Williams: “Take
    Shelter”
Joe Carnahan: “The Tree of Life”
    Paula Patton: “Jane
    Eyre”
Patton Oswalt: “The Tree of Life”and “Bellflower”
    Scarlett
Johansson: “The Adopted” (France) directed by Melanie Laurent
    Mark Neveldine: “Fast Five”
    Bret McKenzie: “Bridesmaids”
    Chris O’Dowd: “Submarine”

    Chris O’Dowd: “Submarine”

Haha. Of course, he would choose “Submarine.”

It was quite interesting indeed, why I thought worth posting

Danny De Vito certainly searches out the unusual – he is a producer, so it’s that surprising, but good for him

How this relates to the Oscars (other than both Bridesmaid and Tree of Life having two mentions) I don’t know, but maybe some clues there (some of these people likely aren’t members anyway)

Robin Williams is for sure an Academy member. I’m really happy that he has seen “Take Shelter.” I haven’t seen the film, but it bodes well that some members search out titles that aren’t in frontrunner contention. The Academy has never strayed too far from the results of SAG or GG, but they do give us a surprise or two come Oscar nomination time.

    Mark Neveldine: “Fast Five”

Mark was in “Fast Five”? Really? I like the audacity of his “Crank” films but, unless he was uncredited, I dont recall seeing him in this movie at all.

These are actors choosing their favorite movies they saw this year, not their favorite of the ones they were in.

Haha. Wouldn’t that be a ridiculous survey? “Which film that you were in do you think is the best?” Kind-of like that interview that actually had the audacity to inform Ryan Gosling which film he would have better Oscar chances with, and in what category.

Jessica Chastain would probably need a crib sheet.

Ah. Makes sense, since he had nothing whatsoever to do with “Fast Five”. But, it is the kind of film he can excel at making, so I’m not surprised.

Ha! I know.. She is certainly setting her own bar pretty high for herself. I’ve seen her in four (The Help, ToL, The Debt and Take Shelter) and she was strong in all. She literally could be nominated for a few of them even though The Help will win out most likely. Somewhat perversely I think I’d put it fourth, still very good.
