This sounds like Oscar bait. Hopefully it doesn’t flop! Queen Olivia will no doubt deliver yet another stunning performance.

March 14, 2022 at 7:18 am #1204849361Please does anyone know a good comp for this movie? I want to say Revolutionary Road because that was a romantic drama directed by Sam Mendes. But I feel like this is more baity and is going to do better than that. I need comps to make my predictions when I haven’t seen the movies and I don’t have a comp for Empire of Light. Please help!!!

June 22, 2022 at 5:19 pm #1204993358From Disney’s Cineeurope presentation: Sam Mendes sent a video to talk about Searchlight’s Empire Of Light. The 1917 director said that after that film he had written this new one during lockdown and called it an “extremely personal story” about music and movies and finding love in unlikely places (https://deadline.com/2022/06/avatar-the-way-of-water-new-footage-thor-love-and-thunder-cineeurope-1235050452/)

This was apparently an Olivia Colman showcase! Majority of the folks who saw it agreed that her performance as a schizophrenic is definitely fetching her another Oscar.
Audience feedback ranged between 'Excellent' and 'Very Good', which is great for a test screening feedback. https://t.co/ZxlASEV23a

Goldderby is currently predicting that Empire of Light will be a 2023 film instead of a 2022 one.
