Debbi Morgan gave such a stunning performance in Eves Bayou. Its a shame she wasn’t nominated for Best Supporting Actress that year, for wonderful work in a great film. Who were the nominees that year, and am I the only one who thinks her performance was great!

1997 correct? Moore, Cusack, Stuart, Driver and Basinger (winner).

Oh so 1997 was a good year! Seeing those nominees I can understand why she didn’t score a nomination. But I wasn’t sure if it was one of those years where crappy performances made it in over the really good performances!

That was one of the best years for Best Supporting Actress nominees, but I think Debbi Morgan still should have made it in (maybe over Stuart or Driver). At the very least, she should have gotten more attention.

Eve’s Bayou hasn’t aged that well, but the strength of Morgan’s perfomance still remains. She would have been my winner from that year and certainly should have made it in over Stuart or Driver.

For what its worth, Sigourney Weaver probably came sixth that year (she WON the BAFTA) for The Ice Storm. Not only would she have been my pick that year, I actually think she would have won. As it stands, I would vote Joan Cusack first, Julianne Moore second. I believe Minnie Driver, Weaver, and Debbi Morgan were fighting for that last spot, though of course there is no way to prove it!
