In many ways, the pre Oscar nominations period of the Oscar seasons is more exciting then the actual Oscar season. Why? Because we’re guaranteed surprises. No matter how many people seem guaranteed nominations, there’s always nominations that many people did not predict because they failed to see the Academy’s passion for the film/performance. And the Academy does often like to go it’s own way- Putting Kate Winslet in lead for The Reader, snubbing Dreamgirls for Best Picture, nominating only two directors from the 2012 DGA shortlist, The Bind Side getting in for Best Picture, ect. What are years where you remember being more excited then usual to see the nominations list? Years where things seemed particularly up in the air? Years where you were terrified of your favorites being shockingly snubbed in favor of another contender?
