    So, I just stumbled upon an article about famous films that were nearly directed by someone else. What do you think would have happened if:

    1) Man of Steel was directed by Darren Aronofsky;

    2) Maleficent was directed by Tim Burton;

    3) Thor: The Dark World was directed by Patty Jenkins;

    4) The Hobbit was directed by Guillermo del Toro;

    5) American Sniper was directed by Steven Spielberg;

    6) Spider-Man was directed by James Cameron;

    7) Spider-Man was directed by David Fincher;

    8) Ant-Man was directed by Edgar Wright;

    9) Watchmen was directed by Terry Gilliam;

    10) Return of the Jedi was directed by David Lynch;

    11) The Godfather was directed by Sergio Leone;

    12) Total Recall was directed by David Cronenberg?

    Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg traded Cape Fear and Schindler’s List with one another

    Uh, guys.

    I appreciate you bringing up other examples, but the point of this topic is to discuss how films could have turned out HAD they been directed by someone else.

    If Spielberg directed Cape Fear, the story would follow alien rapist Max Cady (Harrison Ford) seeking vengeance against a former public defender (Richard Dreyfuss) whom he blames for his 14-year imprisonment as well as his daddy issues.

    And if Scorsese directed Schindler’s List, Oskar Schindler (Robert DeNiro) would have instead been best known for how many times he can drop the F-bomb in a single conversation and all the Nazis (Amon Göth played by Harvey Keitel) would have Italian accents.

    Better?

    In other words, you think they both would’ve blown it had they done the other films.

    Better.

    Cronenberg’s Total Recall would have had Douglas Quaid played by two actors. It isn’t speculation on my end, he says this in a print interview with Ain’t It Cool News while promoting A History of Violence.
