Awards season this past year has certainly had its ups and downs, but let’s look back on a happy note in this case. What were some of your favorite acceptance speeches from this past season and why? Here are my top 3:
1. Jessica Chastain winning Best Actress at the Oscars:
I don’t know how anyone would’ve been able to give a speech after the whole Will Smith debacle, but she managed to do it, and she did with calm, grace, elegance, and poise, not only highlighting her castmates and crew, but also highlighting important issues and the real-life women she played, Tammy Faye Bakker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rso0yrwO2s&t=7s
2. Jude Hill winning Best Young Actor/Actress at the Critics Choice Awards:
This kid is truly one in a million; in 10 to 20 years, he could be one of the biggest stars of his generation. For someone who didn’t have any remarks prepared, he made the most of it, keeping his speech short, sweet, hilarious, and sincere. A lot of adult actors could learn from a speech like this. Plus, his happiness at winning is just absolutely adorable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdVrlli57RM
3. Michael Keaton winning Best Actor In A Limited Series/TV Movie at the SAG Awards:
This win was already epic enough due to the fact that he was in the bathroom when his name was called, and his rush to the stage has now got to be one of the most iconic moments in SAG history. And while his speech may have been on the long side, I don’t feel he wasted a minute of it, talking about the value of actors having opinions and tackling taboo subjects like substance abuse. Plus, his dedication to his nephew, who died of substance abuse, not only made me cry, but it made the whole audience cry, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK-_rYYqBYM
I could include a lot more speeches, but if I did, then this list would go on forever. Whose acceptance speeches were your favorites this past awards season?

No wonder people fell in love with the cast and crew of coda and Belfast their speeches were the best and I fell in love with them , plus I hate how twitter was sending death threats and hate against the cast and crew of each movie just because they beat their faves a practice that I hate so much

April 19, 2022 at 12:30 am #1204922996Darling, My favourite speeches are the one that doesn’t include any political statements (cows, war, equality, etc), speeches that doesn’t last over a minute, and making excuses to slap someone.

This is why I’m not part of Film Twitter, because I don’t like getting into nasty confrontations with people. Even on YouTube it’s bad. There were so many Oscar prediction videos I saw, where in the comments section, it was basically The Power Of The Dog vs. CODA fans tearing each other up.

Same. Although I find it incredulous that CODA fans were tearing up Dog people.
I subscribe to that OTHER controversial subject. Figure Skating.ReplyCopy URLThe Sunne in Splendour.
I prefer my roses whiteMay 7, 2022 at 7:44 am #1204945260Yeah, CODA fans were trashing The Power Of The Dog by saying it was too slow, too boring, too cold, too unemotional, etc. The Power Of The Dog fans, while acknowledging the importance of CODA’s Deaf representation, trashed the film for being too cheesy, too sentimental, too predictable, too unoriginal, too simplistic, etc.
I had my fair gripes with two particular Best Picture nominees, Licorice Pizza and Don’t Look Up. I didn’t necessarily hate those movies, but their flaws made them unworthy of awards attention for many reasons. However, I’m not going to rip apart those who did feel it was worthy of awards consideration.
