In tradition with all the recent favorite of each decade posts going on, I thought I’d spice it up a little with this challenge: name your favorite Best Actor and Best Actress nominees of each decade from the 1930s to the 2010s who came close to Oscar glory, but ultimately didn’t win. Each person must have been nominated for an Oscar who ultimately lost on Oscar night.
1930s:
James Stewart—Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
I haven’t seen enough of the Best Actress nominees of this decade to definitively decide for them.1940s:
Orson Welles—Citizen Kane
Katharine Hepburn—The Philadelphia Story1950s:
Marlon Brando—A Streetcar Named Desire
Bette Davis—All About Eve1960s:
Dustin Hoffman—The Graduate
Anne Bancroft—The Graduate1970s:
Robert De Niro—Taxi Driver
Ellen Burstyn—The Exorcist1980s:
Tom Cruise—Born On The Fourth Of July
Whoopi Goldberg—The Color Purple1990s:
Liam Neeson—Schindler’s List
Kate Winslet—Titanic2000s:
Russell Crowe—A Beautiful Mind
Gabourey Sidibe—Precious2010s:
