Which critics do you think are the best at recognizing EXCELLENCE?
ReplyAugust 6, 2020 at 10:05 am #1203630149Definitely not the Critics’ Choice Awards. I went with NYFCC.

The worst Awards of the entire season.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 6, 2020 at 10:35 am #1203630248I feel like nsfc and lafca are the same people because they often share the same winners very indie/foreign/experimental films. Nyfcc however are more mainstream
ReplyCopy URLAugust 6, 2020 at 11:43 am #1203630441NSFC, without a doubt. Their history proves how committed to recognizing good cinema they are (or used to be; they’ve faltered in the last few years). I mean, they handed their Best Film award to Goodbye to Language in 2014!

I guess it might not exactly be what you were referring to since its members include film academics and journalists as well, and not just critics, but ICS always has more exciting and varied picks (especially in nominations) than any of these critics groups. It certainly breaks the monotony of seeing the same group of people being awarded/nominated everywhere else.

Abolish them, no one needs them!!

And they watch many movies, too. Unlike the Oscars, they reward non-English movies every year, which shows how much they love cinema. AMPAS choices are so boring tbh.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 7, 2020 at 6:15 am #1203631958National board reviews are probably the worst group. They always choose the most cookie cutter Oscar bait safe movies. Whenever they try to chose more “artistic” winners is almost always A24 films and is usually the most mainstream friendly A24 films. The Chicago film critics association I think are the most underrated. I feel they are the unspoken 4th most important group after the big 3 lafca, nsfc, and nyfcc

I found it bizarre they gave best picture to once upon a time instead of parasite. If they were really about critics choice parasite or marriage should’ve won original screenplay too since those two won awards at lafca and nsfcAugust 11, 2020 at 2:12 pm #1203640378<p style=”text-align: right;”>

Phoenix was distantly trailing Driver in critics’ awards leading up to Phoenix’s GG win, which is clear evidence that CC voters are sheeps who got hyped up by GG..

That’s not true Bale won the CC over Maleck, i think the critics gave all those awards to Driver just to break Joaquin momemtum, it is a debate who was better, there are some critics that thought Banderas was better i think Banderas won the most important critics awards.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 13, 2020 at 12:35 pm #1203644130Critic’s Choice does not deserve to be even called critics award.
I’m still angry at them McDormand, Rockwell, Janney and Oldman, while Metcalf, Dafoe, Chalamet and Hawkins were winning critics, because they are shameless hacks who just want to predict Oscars.
