Que Horas Ela Volta – Anna Muylaert (a much more sensible and complex take on maids’ reality than whats was done with say, Roma by Cuaron. Besides she offers a possibility of change to the lead character. Fantastic!)

Zama – Lucrecia Martel (becoming one of the most influential directors right now with only 4 films done in her career. Watching her interviews is witnessing a philosophy for the 21th century. Look out for her recent work with Björk, fantastic!)

A Hora da Estrela – Suzana Amaral

Can You Ever Forgive Me? – Marielle Heller

I’m interested in watching Agnes Varda films soon. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to start?

Desperately Seeking Susan and Smithereens (another more obscure film from the same director. Sadly she didn’t have that great of a subsequent career)

I have no idea whether it’s a good start or not, but I recently watched Le Bonheur and I deeply loved it!

Zero Dark Thirty is still my favorite Best Picture nominated film of this decade. Ground breaking.

I remember hearing about it and my initial thought was “who wants to see a movie about them killing Bin Laden?” Kathryn Bigelow being snubbed for Best Director is one of the most devistating snubs this decade.
