Probably my favorite living movie actor, after De Niro maybe, but he’s not even trying anymore.
1. Orlando
2. The Deep End
3. Julia
4. Edward ll
5. SnowpiercerI agree that beyond the 90’s very few of the movies she’s in lived up to work, though Snowpiercer comes close. But she committed to taking risks and constantly trying new things, which is what’s most important. Never understood the hype around WNTTAK or her performance in it, which is smothered by all its nonsense. Sure, she deserved a spot over Close, but that entire category was wack when the likes of Dunst, Olsen and Wigg were eligible.

My pick is I Am Love, Great film and absolutely magnificent performance.I pondered choosing that one. But for me, Orlando is the most elegant film on gender politics and the nature of gender itself. The film continues to knock me out, every time I see it. The kinds of grace Swinton adds to her/his central character is a marvel.

As for her acting chops, I do believe she is among greats and that when we look at the past 15 years, she will be the one to remember.
But, I think that one of the reasons Swinton is not as popular as she ought to, is that we have “her” mainstream version in Blanchett. Swinton just needs a bit more mainstream projects in order to get attention to many of her under the radar projects that can be true gems. Simply, she needs her own elf-queen 🙂
