Which movie director is your favourite. You can name one or give mutiple examples.

For example my favourite director is Wes Anderson because he makes such unique and quirky movies with memorable characters.

    Who is yours?

Probably Bong Joon-ho or Barry Jenkins, but I really need to watch more movies and discover more directors.

    Bong Joon-ho

    David Lynch

    Jane Campion

David Fincher – I didn’t care about Mank but he’s a goddamn genius when it comes to the crime genre. The tension and unease he manages to create is incredible. A true master of suspense filmmaking.

Working I’d probably say Apichatpong Weerasethakul with Almodóvar close behind. All time it’s between Abbas Kiarostami and Satyajit Ray. With many honorable mentions, obviously.

If you ask me right now:

    Chantal Akerman
    Marguerite Duras
    Jean-Luc Godard
    Terrence Malick
    Manoel de Oliveira
    Jacques Rivette
    Angela Schanelec
    Erich von Stroheim
    Tsai Ming-Liang
    Yoshishige Yoshida

    HM: Hou, Weerasethakul, Masumura, Straub-Huillet

But it changes all the time as I discover new directors. Some I really want to get into but for some reason keep on postponing: Ozu, Antonioni, Piavoli, Ottinger, Kiarostami, Hanoun, Tsui, Eisenstein, etc.

Campion & PTA. Von Trier is close but oscillates between genius & ridiculous.

That’s why a Dog v Pizza race would be Oscar Heaven, but won’t happen.
