It may not necessarily be Burnham or Cooke but I think we’re getting a Marina de Tavira style nomination in one or both of the supporting categories.

Wouldn’t surprise me too much. I could see Cooke or Fishback only getting nominated at the Oscars. Supporting Actress almost seems built for this actually, because I think Close and Bakalova are quite vulnerable even though they’ll probably do okay at precursors. I also don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say Strathairn could coattail for Nomadland if that gets the love it could get (very a la Roma), although I think a Boseman double nom or Chicago 7 double up is still more likely.

Hopkins is not winning anything cause he’s white. It’s the year to hate white people.

LOL you rock Victor!!!!!! You’re one of the few truthtellers around here.

Why does it have to be about hating white people instead of giving (often overdue) recognition to many talented actors of color? I think Anthony Hopkins is just about the best actor of our time, but I’m not gonna be hung up if he doesn’t win. I wouldn’t say it’s because they’re punishing white people, either: Hopkins just got nominated and he already won a very well-deserved Oscar. Meanwhile, Lindo’s been repeatedly snubbed for great performances in movies over the years—he deserves his time, just like Hopkins. Boseman was a rising star who gave a fantastic final performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Those are the reasons why they’re being recognized by critics circles right now, not because there’s an angry agenda against white people. If that were really true, then I’d think Viola Davis would be sweeping the awards instead of Carey Mulligan and Frances McDormand. Just because white people aren’t winning everything and we’re seeing more diverse stories—and consequently more diverse award winners—doesn’t mean that white people are hated. Imo it’s just that non-white people are finally starting to be loved. There’s a big difference.

boseman is only winning because he died, we’ve been through this.

I don’t think earnest argument is going to work with certain users. Believe me I’ve tried. The ignore button is going to break with the number of times I’ve hit it this season but I think it can handle one more push.

you are overestimating how much I care.

    Is he though?

Because you and Occultcherry are two users who are obsessed with bringing up Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman in every possible thread and how they don’t deserve to win. You haven’t brought it up once or twice, you’ve done it all the time. It’s one thing to not like their performances, but with you guys it’s becoming quite clear that there is another level of annoyance with Viola and Chadwick that is just not rational or logical. We don’t even know if Davis or Boseman will win their Oscars, we haven’t had a single televised precursor yet, so this obsessive hatred is particularly jarring so early on.
