Worth baring in mind that there was strong win buzz for Da 5 Bloods back when it released. In fact some joked that a white person car movie would have to be released to stop it.
I won’t be surprised if it won the Drama Globe and got to BAFTA but then lost the Oscar.
Can’t remember, is there any driving in Chicago 7? It’s exactly the milquetoast white lib shit that keeps cursing Spike.

These two sweeping as they should
January 26, 2021 at 3:44 pm #1204003876Why the hell are these critics honouring Fennel, not Zeller? He literally adapted his own play, one of the most produced and successful play in 2010s, into a great film, far stronger cinematically than any debut films last year. The crappy distributor had everything to be utilised, but they couldn’t. It is so sad seeing him and his casts missing more and more award.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2021 at 4:17 pm #1204003927My interpretation of the Scripter rules is that The Father was not eligible. They did not change their eligibility calendar. It is a 2021 release. Nomadland and One Night in Miami… did have negligible releases in 2020 that distinguish them from it.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2021 at 4:24 pm #1204003944Ellen Burstyn has been garnering critics attention ever since Pieces of a Woman was released and more so than Vanessa Kirby. I was about to drop her in third behind Youn and Seyfried but I might keep my win prediction for her if she continues on this trajectory.

The fact that The Father doesn’t even have a poster yet. Mess.

It’s annoying that there is finally an Asian woman in serious competition for this award and…I cannot stand her direction. I really wish I did!

I don’t know what’s your take on this, but I thought that her previous effort (The Rider) was fine. As for Mads, I’ll pretend that she’s getting recognized for her other and better work, lol.

Ellen is a legend, and I def think she’s proven that she can get in without Vanessa.

Recent supporting performances nominated while their leads were snubbed at the last second:

– Adam Driver without John David Washington
– Barkhad Abdi without Tom Hanks
– Helen Hunt without John Hawkes
But it also remains to be seen if Vanessa Kirby has traction beyond the preseason, so to speak. She somewhat could be the:
– Taraji P. Henson to Octavia Spencer
– Michelle Williams to Christopher Plummer
– Jake Gyllenhaal & Amy Adams to Michael Shannon
