I’m not talking about the film itself, I’m talking about all the Joaquin vs Adam discourse lately. It seems like some users are Beetlejuice, say Joaquin or Adam three times and they’ll suddenly appear, so I vow to do the same for Place.

Is this even a question? My girl Mary Kay Place. Pulls off an upset win at LAFCA and maybe like 3 people commented on it, she deserves better.

Everyone go on Hulu and watch her movie, I’m going to be an annoying stan for her from now on as karmic revenge for all the Joker mess lately.

Thank for you sharing that “Diane” was available on Hulu. I’ve watched it twice now and Mary Kay Place definitely deserves recognition for her tender, weary worn and heartbreaking performance. (Thank you Los Angeles). I’m not going to be an annoying stan (but power to you), because Place is one of three actresses that I’m cheering for this award season – thus far. I still have a few movies to see. But, I would love, LOVE to see her get SAG and Oscar nominations (even though deep down I know she won’t.) Thanks again.

I would say Taron Egerton. While he’ll definitely be nominated at the GG, and possibly BAFTAs, bad timing and a crowded category did him in.

Huh? He’s got a real good chance at getting in at SAG tomorrow too. I wouldn’t use him as an example here at all.

I know barely anyone on this site has seen Instinct (mainly because the distribution of the film has been poor) but Carice van Houten gives an Oscar winning performance. It’s honestly the best of the year, and if it was given in a more accessible film it would be gaining US awards traction.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

I saw this in September. A great debut film imo. Kenzari is also terrific.
The advanced message in this film will likely not be welcome this side of the pond.

Joanna Kulig in Cold War followed by Helena Howard in Madeline’s Madeline.

Did you just come out of a time machine from last year?

It’s been backed by major US publications (Hollywood Reporter, Variety to name two) so the critical reaction is surprisingly really positive. I really hope it makes the shortlist soon.

He got in at SAG and most likely will get in at BAFTA so now I think he will get nominated at the Oscars while De Niro will be forgotten in the dust hahaha!

Julianne Moore gives a great performance in Gloria Bell. If it wasn’t such a stacked year and the fact she’s already an Oscar winner she’d get nominated.

now that I have seen Richard Jewell I would add Paul Walter Hauser and Sam Rockwell, who are both amazing in the movie and make a great screen team in the way they act off of each other. Kathy Bates has won the National Board of Review and is a Golden Globe nominee so she has a chance at getting an Oscar nomination, and she’s wonderful in her emotional role as his mother.
