Regardless of what Ridley Scott wants, it’s gonna be deeply hard for them to keep the date if the postponement of the production is indefinite. Annette too may be affected by the pandemic and delayed to 2021, since it’s one of those movies who needs word of mouth, thus a festival premiere and multiple industry screenings, to be a contender in the race, and these are all events that won’t happen now with this global emergency going on.

Annette is finished so I can’t envision a scenario where it doesn’t release this year – even if Cannes happens behind closed doors.

Venom 2 pushed back to December 2021.

I don’t think that’s true. Haven’t seen anything about it on the internet.

Plus Venom 2 comes out in October. Covid-19 will be done by then.

This won’t be very great year for film Box Office. Tenet and Dune are huge budget Original films. Both are $200 millions plus and both need $600-$650 millions number for a hit tag only. Proper Vaccines will take 10-12 months to be fully made. Although countries with warmer weather will be safer in summer. I have heard this virus dies in warm temperature. Something like 40-45 degree celsius. Many films will be delayed, many film productions will be delayed as they all should. Smaller films should pick Netflix/Amazon/Hulu release route. It’s not going to be a great year for films unfortunately. The usual theatre going magic is going to be on a break. But then, films aren’t important than human life.

China started recovering from the virus in 3 months. I think by late June-early July it will have run its course.

The first half of the year will be very devoid of big-budget films, and a lot wilk either cone out late this year or early the next. Those seasons will be packed.

This is a great opportunity for smaller films to make money. Plenty of people will still want to go to the movies, and they don’t have any tentpoles to compete with for a while.

Honestly, New Mutants should go to Disney+ at this point. That poor movie.

You know what really sucks? Everything I’ve heard about the film (I’ve been following it all along as Maisie Williams is my favorite actress) is that it’s actually really good. GREAT responses from the focus screenings. If it had been reviewed–and I genuinely think the reviews would have been really good–and those had gotten out, it would have at least had that buzz to build on prior to its next release instead of the misinformation that’s been floating out there.

Right now so many think it’s been pushed back because of issues with the film itself and that is simply not the case *at all.* Ah well. The film just can’t catch a break.

I’ve had a quick read through the thread and just wanted to make a few general comments, some of which relates to what people have already posted.

Though the things are looking much better in China this is purely due to the draconion measures the Chinese Government have taken to limit the spread of the virus. Once people get out and about again in China its likely to take off again though with on-going measures to shut down clusters as they appear.

South Korea have managed to slow the virus with the measures in place in but this disease is fairly virulent and is likely to be around for some time now.

The various measures being taken in different countries aren’t to stop the virus, the genie is out of the bottle and nothing is going to stop it. The measures are to slow it down so that health services are overwhelmed in giant hits resulting in massive deaths. Stunting and slowing down the virus makes it last longer by helps health services more capacity to treat it (not that there is much treatment other than assisted breathing).

Expect most if not all films regardless of budget from across the globe to be delayed indefinitely (Cannes, Venice and all minor film festivals will not be happening). However, this will not create a bottle neck as film (as well as TV & streaming shows) productions will come to a halt worldwide. A number of films have already halted production and numerous ones that were due to start filming have halted delayed production – some of them will now not get made (refer to next paragraph).

There are also the economic impact of the virus which will be of the likes of which none us has ever seen in any of our lifetimes. Expect many businesses to go broke, MASS unemployment and hardships we have only ever read about. Hopefully the world will bounce back quickly but it’s impossible to say.

Its very unlikely this virus is going aware anytime soon I’m afraid.

Governments around the world should have acted as soon as China placed Wuhan and the Hubei province into lockdown. But they were looking at short term $$$ and now everyone will be paying big time with at worse their lives or the lives of their loved ones not to mention of our very way of life. We are heading for very tough times on so many fronts.

    Movie theater closures

All AMC theaters are reducing auditorium capacity to at least 50% starting March 14.

All screenings at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood are suspended indefinitely.

All screenings at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica are suspended indefinitely.

All cinemas in Italy are closed until at least April 3.

Widespread cinema closures have also occurred in China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.

All the educational institutions, all sports stadiums, all the film and drama theatres are now closed in my country for 4-5 weeks.

Number of affected patients is increasing day by day.

Being a Soccer/Football fan,I would like to tell that UEFA has suspended all the leagues both continental and domestic.

WWE’s Wrestlemania 36 is on verge of cancelation which was going to be held in Tampa.

UFC 249 will be held inside an empty arena in April.

Now,I just don’t see any Film Festivals taking place under this event or many film’s Box Office not being affected by it globally.

Studios should now release their film via VOD sites and apps?

    They can’t without legal ramifications.

Paul Schrader’s new film has been halted too.
Same for the new Will Smith one.

China did a much better containment job than the US.

China employed policies that would never fly under western politics (also most of my friends who live there think they did a horrid job with the containment bug that’s a different topic of conversation), I think it’d be lucky if everything clears up by the time tiff comes
