I watched Blue Velvet recently and read it only got a nomination in Best Director for Lynch and the same happened to him with Mulholland Drive. Another case is Scorsese with The Last Temptation of Christ.
    Any other cases?

Hiroshi Teshigahara for The Woman in the Dunes

Woman in the Dunes was actually nominated for the Foreign Language Film award the year before Teshigahara was nominated!

    It’s a pretty short list:

    Speedy, Ted Wilde
    Sorrel and Son, Herbert Brenon
Two Arabian Knights, Lewis Milestone (win)
    Drag, Frank Lloyd
    Hallelujah!, King Vidor
The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, Mark Robson
    Alice’s Restaurant, Arthur Penn
    Fellini Satyricon, Federico Fellini
    Blue Velvet, David Lynch
The Last Temptation of Christ, Martin Scorsese
    Short Cuts, Robert Altman
    Mulholland Dr., David Lynch

Interesting to see how many of these actually should have won, in hindsight.
