The biopic about Queen singer Freddie Mercury, which has been in development for years and has had several directors attached at one point and originally had Sacha Baron Cohen attached to play Freddie Mercury, may finally be moving forward at last with Bryan Singer directing and Rami Malek starring as Freddie Mercury. http://deadline.com/2016/11/queen-movie-rami-malek-freddie-mercury-bryan-singer-bohemian-rhapsody-1201848910/#comment-list-wrapper

Queen didn’t want that version. This will be watered down censored and family friendly PG-13 for broad commercial appeal despite the fact the audience for a biopic on Mercury is niche.

Bryan Singer is still attached as director and Rami Malek is still playing Freddie Mercury. The rest of the Queen band members have been cast. Joe Mazzello will play bassist John Deacon, Ben Hardy will play drummer Roger Taylor, and Gwilym Lee will play guitarist Brian May. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/bryan-singers-bohemian-rhapsody-casts-queen-bandmates-1028454

ReplyCopy URLSeptember 1, 2017 at 12:25 am #1202200811I’m very skeptical about this movie. I really wish we weren’t getting a watered down pg-13 version but maybe it’ll still be decent, I generally like Singer. I’m not sure how Malek would be in this role but he’s a good actor so I’ll give him a chance.

Isn’t that what was requested and why Sascha Baron Cohen isn’t doing it because he wanted an R rated version?

September 1, 2017 at 10:04 am #1202201117Rami Malek is so miscast it is unbelievable. Baron Cohen would have been perfect.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 5, 2017 at 2:18 pm #1202204397Entertainment Weekly has released the first official photo of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. http://ew.com/movies/2017/09/05/rami-malek-freddie-mercury-bohemian-rhapsody/
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 6, 2017 at 9:36 am #1202205312He looks perfect…
…because you can’t really see his face and the moustache helps. He’s also very thin so it makes sense.
But Malek looks nothing like him and there’s no makeup team in the world that can turn Malek into the hairy man Mercury was.
I don’t understand this casting. This movie will have to be insanely good for people to accept Malek. And with Singer at the helm, I have zero hopes of this being that great.
Sometimes you can let things go, like Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs or Jessica Lange looking nothing like Joan Crawford, but in this particular case, you need a Freddie Mercury look a like. There were way too many physical things you remember about him.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 6, 2017 at 10:28 am #1202205347I can’t believe that people are bemoaning the casting of Malek, one of his generation’s best and most interesting actors, over Baron Cohen, a buffoon known for gross-out comedy and crass, trashy movies.
