It just had its first screening and to sum up the reactions:

    – Most people are calling it just as good as, if not better than, the first movie. “The rare sequel that is better than its predecessor.”

    – More mature, much darker

    – The songs are catchier – which shocks me.

    The response is truly amazing

I really hope i end up liking this one much more, because the first has such a basic and thin story.

Based on the trailers i do feel the tone and story will make me more pleased.

I’ll always be wary of early screening reactions, since they tend to be overinflated by hype and the privilege of being the first to see a new film. That being said, if Frozen 2’s review scores from both critics and audiences are this strong when it comes out, I might actually go see it. Probably in a couple weeks after all the kiddies have had their fill though.

I know their just early reactions (I take them more seriously than others do, though), but Frozen II is looking like the Best Animated Feature frontrunner right now. If it’s a massive success at the box office, it’s in.

Pixar has never lost to Disney Animation. Toy Story 4 will win. It already made 1 Billion and has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

You could say that Disney Animation has won over Pixar when there were years where the Pixar film wasn’t nominated. “Toy Story 4” was well received, but widely believed to be the weakest entry in the franchise. When your predecessor is the second animated film to be nominated for Best Picture, there’s quite a mountain to climb. “Frozen II” on the other hand has good first reaction responses (I know those are biased) and will likely do the one-two punch of BAF and Song.

Correction: “Up” was the second animated feature nominated for best picture. TS3 was the 3rd.

Frozen II climbing on Rotten Tomatoes – 84%. Tomorrow afternoon Idina Menzel (2nd) and Kristen Bell (first time) will get their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Hopefully Variety webcasts the ceremony like they have in the past.

Almost $9 million from midnight screenings Thursday, projection of around $130m weekend, which would be the best animated November open ever.

The best animated movie of the year, with a powerhouse soundtrack that has FIVE legit best original song nominee contenders (Into the Unknown, The Next Right Thing, Lost in the Woods, Some Things Never Change and When I Get Older). A fantastic Christophe Beck score. Voice acting that shows there’s not a weak link in the entire cast. The more the movie played out you could absolutely understand why it took six years to bring this to us. Best Picture nominee? Why not? Go in cold. Do not listen to the soundtrack before you see it. And try to contain the waterworks when The Next Right Thing plays on near the end.

    Worth. The. Wait.
