ReplyI just love movies. And awards.
January 3, 2023 at 5:51 am #1205219173Potentially, the role of Celie from The Color Purple by next awards cycle, what with the movie musical coming out this December.

January 3, 2023 at 6:20 am #1205219194I just wonder if a third role of the Joker is going to win again, lol, the Academy seems to love that character, no idea why Jack Nicholson wasn’t nominated, Jack was at least nominated for a Golden Globe.

There was no way a comic book movie was ever going to be considered prestigious enough to get anywhere near above the line oscars back in the 80s. It’s only in the past 15 years when they’ve become the only box office guarantees that they’ve reluctantly started to consider them awards worthy. I personally doubt we get a third oscar winner for this character, at least not for decades. It looks like the comic book movie bubble might just barely be starting to burst, and I don’t see the academy being eager to hold onto the genre any longer than they have to

They nominated Al Pacino for Dick Tracy in the 90s is not like they started nominated actors for comic book characters just in the last 15 years.

Ok sure but that was a crime film that while campy existed somewhat within the real world. It was not a superhero comic, which the academy treated very differently.
