Given the reviews Rose Byrne got for “Neighbors” this summer, I assumed she was a lock for a Golden Globe nomination for Comedy Actress, but it seems as though no one is talking about her. Why?
It annoys me even more given the fact that people are writing articles how there’s a lack of female roles worthy of recognition this year. Byrne was freakin fantastic. In a movie that was supposed to be Zac Efron’s breakthrough, Byrne stole it right out from under him. She was absolutely hilarious in a non-typical role role for a woman in this kind of crass comedy.
She’s actually STILL in my top 5 for Best Actress this year, ahead of Felicity Jones and Hilary Swank.
So why isn’t she getting any recognition? This is a perfect example of comedy not being recognized.November 29, 2014 at 7:38 pm #166524
Oh ya, for comedy/musical, she should absolutely be nominated. With regards to the oscars, I think you will have more of a problem. This isn’t a showy, buzzed about performance like McCarthy in Bridesmaids. I think she will continue to be passed over for the whole season, with the only chance being at the Globes.November 29, 2014 at 7:45 pm #166525
Oh yeah, I’m not saying she has a chance at an Oscar nom. She doesn’t. I’m more talking about why doesn’t she? She should have way more buzz. She got “Best In Show” notices in every review I read in a critically-acclaimed comedy that was a huge hit this summer. She should be being talked about more at this point, but she’s not at all. No one is even considering her a Globe possibility. Is the studio promoting her at all?November 29, 2014 at 8:10 pm #166526
No, Nieghbors belongs to Universal, who have hitched their wagons to Unbroken and Get on Up. And then inexplicably to A Million Ways to Die in the West. That’s almost as funny as the Transformers Age of Extinction FYC page that lists Best Picture as a category.
They did send out a screener, targeting the Globes for Comedy Film, not for her in particular.November 29, 2014 at 9:04 pm #166527
That’s a shame. I would have to check but so far I think she is still in my Top 5.November 29, 2014 at 10:43 pm #166528
She was the highlight of the film and stole the entire show, I undertand her for comedy actress at the globes but at the oscars I would say she would have a better chance if she went supporting. Her role as more supportive to Rogen and Efron.November 30, 2014 at 12:37 am #166529
I totally agree that Rose Byrne was GREAT in neighbors. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole movie. Though I wouldn’t say it was supposed to be Efron’s “breakthrough”. I’m pretty sure he had his breakthrough awhile ago.November 30, 2014 at 4:22 am #166530
Rose Byrne is also in my top 5 so far, but in Supporting. It’s a stronger “supporting” performance than a lead one, even though the role is borderline.November 30, 2014 at 7:20 am #166531

Sorry, probably the wrong word. I mean that this was supposed to be Zac’s showcase.November 30, 2014 at 7:21 am #166532
Really? I don’t see Rose as supporting in the movie.November 30, 2014 at 9:45 am #166533
I support this! Neighbors was a great movie and Rose Byrne was clearly the best performer in the movie.
I'm not perfect, but I keep trying.November 30, 2014 at 5:52 pm #166534
I really thought this was Efron’s showcase, I saw nothing ordinary in Byrnes performance, I even loved her when I first saw it, but then I saw it again, and I was more captivated by Efron and his fraternity friends.December 1, 2014 at 12:00 am #166535
I think it’s a fine movie, and Rose Bryne is easily standout, but far from being Oscar-worthy, really. She would be lock for a Golden Globe nomination in my book, though.December 2, 2014 at 6:28 am #166536
Guys, come on, she was not that good or memorable.
Having said that, I do not know who I would nominate for Globe comedy actress.
