She can still easily win Oscar if she wins SAG you know. Only Youn is her rival there.

No if she missed the Oscar noms

Honestly Close should have won for 101 Dalmatians

I used to think this was possible, but let’s get real here. She hasn’t had a hit in any medium for over 20 years (unless you count her 15 min in Guardians of the Galaxy).

Moreover, none of her films have aged well.

And even with the great overdue narrative, she couldn’t win in 2018.

She’s very talented, but the universe isn’t on her side.

And Colman who has never won an individual SAG and has 3 nods this year.

No one is rushing to award Colman again lol Yall sound like Hopkins stans.

I feel for her. There aren’t roles in prestige dramas for women of her age that don’t go to Meryl Streep.

“Dangerous Liaisons” and “Fatal Attraction” are both classics and have aged perfectly well.

Eh. If anything, her roles have aged much better than most winningest actresses’ roles.

Glenn was fabulous in “The Wife” and should have absolutely won that year. The Academy have done her so wrong.

I love her but Facts are Facts, and the Fact is that Glenn doesn’t deserve a nomination for Hillbilly Elegy. Nor did she deserve a nomination for Albert Nobbs, nor The Wife.

I wish someone could conceive of an opportunity for her to do work on the level of Dangerous Liaisons, but just because she should have won then doesn’t mean we have to come up with sad and sorry excuses to reward her even when we know that people like Olivia Colman in 2018 or Youn Yuh-jung last year were better.

That’s just opinion not fact. Some people really liked The Wife. When she won her globe you can overhear Gary Oldman (who doesn’t seem like the target audience for a film like that) say to her how lovely her performance was as he hands her the award.

With Close in the longlists of the Razzie awards and the Screenplay and Director, it´s possible that will hurt Close chances to be nominated, honestly his role in Hillbilly Elegy is overacted, so i think there is a strong possibility that she will be snubbed. Bakalova and Close will be snubbed and the two slots are between Zengel, Foster and Burstyn.

I am 100% with you that Glenn Close did not deserve a nom for Albert Nobbs—but to keep in perspective, none of the people nominated in Best Actess that year (maybe excluding Viola Davis) deserved to be nominated.

She ABSOLUTELY deserved her nomination in The Wife. It’s a breathtaking performance. I was so moved by that performance. I was very moved by Colman’s too—at the time I did think Close deserved the win, now I’m like “mmkay, maybe a bit on par, it was a tough call.”

As to Hillbilly Elegy: almost nobody who is probably getting a nom really deserves it. This is a VERY weak year for me. Youn was fantastic, every other great performance I saw isn’t in the conversation: I thought Linda May and Swankie were awesome, Talia Ryder was great, and Viola Davis technically should be in supporting and be dominating here. So with what we have: yeah whatever, I don’t think her nom will be any less deserving than Seyfried’s, sorry.

What I DO find ludicrous is the idea that Glenn Close won’t win a competitive Oscar. Like…..guys, c’mon. She was nominated for an AWFUL movie by SAG, Globes, and even for Critics Choice which should have been the one group to snub her given that critics savaged the film. If they wanted to keep her in the mix for THIS, almost every performance she gives till she’s rewarded will go a little something like this.

The issue is she hasn’t been cast in a worthy role for 30 years. Sure, maybe she’ll get some HE-esque buzz for another movie, but unless it’s undeniable, it’s not going to move any AMPAS voter below the age of 50 to vote for her.

Hillbilly Elegy has an 85% audience approval rating on rottentomatoes.

    Some people like it.

    To compare Da 5 Bloods has a 51 and Mank a 62, Borat a 60 last time I checked.
