Both of these 80s legends are often compared to Streep, but I’ve never seen them pitted against one another.
They’ve both been successful in theater, TV, and film.
Close famously has never won an Oscar but been nominated 7 times. Lange has won twice out of 6 nominations.
Close has won 3 Tonys out of 4 nominations. Lange won on her only nomination.
Both have 3 Emmys from many nominations.
Who is the greater thespian?
I’m a big Lange fan- I’d argue she’s overdue for her 3rd Oscar more than Close is for her 2nd, but curious what most of you think.

But overall I prefer Lange’s style more than Close’s.
Idk! It’s hard to choose so I’m going with Sissy Spacek

Agree mostly, just that Lange was great in Sweet Dreams and of course in American Horror Story. Her filmography is terrible…
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 11, 2021 at 1:50 pm #1204037936I think Close also has the more iconic characters. Alex (Fatal Attraction), Cruella (100 Dalmatians), and Marquise (Dangerous Liasons).
They are both nearly opposites of one another. Lange was seen as Hollywood’s newest sex-symbols and Close was seen as the anti-sex symbol.Streep, Close, and Lange were all seen as the new it girls of Hollywood during the 80, carrying the torches previously held by Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, and Ingrid Bergman.

I’d say they’re both pretty on par tbh in terms of acclaim. The difference is that Glenn’s movies made money.
