Hello again! Thank you to all 83 of you who participated in this experiment!
For anybody who doesn’t know how the preferential ballot works, here is a quick explanation:
Every ballot ranks the nominees from 1 to 8. Ballots are then sorted according to their first-place choice (there’s a Nomadland pile, a Minari pile, etc.) If one film is the first choice in more than 50% of ballots (42 ballots, in our case) it automatically wins. If that doesn’t happen, the film with the lowest number of number 1 votes is removed, and its ballots are redistributed according to their second-place choice. Then, the film with the lowest number of ballots in its pile is removed, and the process continues until one pile has more than 50% of ballots.
