The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will announce its 2018 Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient in a few weeks. We will run a poll soon with 18 men and 14 women as strong possibilities. Look at the list below and let us know if someone is missing. Ones suggested should have great film careers and be at least age 50 for which the Golden Globes could build an entire segment and promotional campaign. The next ceremony will be the 75th anniversary, so they will probably want a really big name this time.

    Jeff Bridges
    Mel Brooks
    Michael Caine
    Joel and Ethan Coen
    Francis Ford Coppola
    Tom Cruise
    Johnny Depp
    Robert Duvall
    Mel Gibson
    Tom Hanks
    Ron Howard
    Michael Keaton
    Steve Martin
    Eddie Murphy
    Bill Murray
    Brad Pitt
    Ridley Scott
    Sylvester Stallone

    Julie Andrews
    Annette Bening
    Sandra Bullock
    Carol Burnett
    Glenn Close
    Sally Field
    Jane Fonda
    Whoopi Goldberg
    Diane Keaton
    Nicole Kidman
    Jessica Lange
    Angela Lansbury
    Julia Roberts
    Sigourney Weaver

Kathy Bates seems like an atypical choice but the Globes can credit themselves with making her happen by a nomination and win for Misery.

Could be Jane Fonda this time. They’re trying to make that 9 to 5 reunion happen at an awards show. Lily Tomlin honoured Dolly Parton at the CMAs last year and then Dolly honoured Lily at the SAG Awards earlier this year (Fonda was supposed to join but was unwell, if I recall correctly).

Maybe the Globes will bring the three together with Parton and Tomlin honouring Fonda.

The perfect way to kick off the Michelle Pfeiffer campaign is to reward her at the Golden Globes with a Cecil B. DeMille Award!

I still cannot get over the fact that George Clooney got one, though. So you just never know. The next might be Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. Like what kind of lifetime achievement we are talking about in Clooney’s case? ER and some films where he decently played the same character over and over again? Like no.

Typically they do not award someone who could be nominated. They finally removed this “criteria” this past year to finally award Meryl who was also nominated. That had not happened since 1995 when Sophia Loren was also nominated. This makes me think Tom Hanks has a very strong chance for this honor. I would really like to see them honor more women. My personal vote would be Jane Fonda.

    My top candidate list is:

    Jane Fonda
    Whoopi Goldberg
    Tom Hanks
    Ron Howard
    Diane Keaton
    Steve Martin

    Top 5 men:
    Jeff Bridges
    Michael Caine
    Tom Hanks
    Ron Howard
    Bill Murray

    Top 5 women:
    Julie Andrews
    Sally Field
    Jane Fonda
    Whoopi Goldberg
    Angela Lansbury

I’m surprised Chris didn’t put Kathy Bates’ name on the list, as I think she would be a fine recipient as well.

“Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria, and was selected to a three-person U.N. commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza Strip. So tonight, her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award.”

    Faye Dunaway! ????

OSCAR FLASHBACK: Nicholson at the Oscars (1973) – The Last Detail

Dunaway is unlikely due to the fact she remains prickly as a person and has no relevant vehicles in the last thirty years to reference to. Ellen Burstyn will always have Requiem for a Dream as a contemporary reference point of her greatness to modern audiences. Which was also initially offered to Dunaway.

Lol, it’ll be funny if it’s Hanks. That’ll help with his campaign for The Papers.

Maggie Smith would be a great choice!
